Our cat is missing :(

I'm not one who believes in spirits or anything like that, but Geri (my cat who passed away in June, who my username is based on) has been to visit me in my dreams a few times, which is comforting.
I also put her photo in my purse.0 -
I'm so sorry MV.
I read that animals are luckier than we are because they don't usually know that death is coming. We live our whole lives in its shadow, knowing we are running out of time and will decline but they are so lucky not to have this burden.
If they are taken by surprise at the end when they are away from home, they don't understand how awful the situation is. Instead they just hide somewhere, such as under a bush like Daisy, waiting for the danger to pass in a moment. We owners wonder why the cat doesn't come home to us in her hour of need but it's not because she doesn't love her home or us, it's just because she doesn't know she's dying. Truly it is a blessing to live your life this way.
I have also had Geri's experience of dreaming of the cat I lost this year. It was so real and unexpected and I woke up with the biggest smile at seeing her full of health and joy again, doing what she always did. I can't explain why but it was wonderful and I think of her now with more happiness than grief at her decline. It's as if my last memory of her has been rewritten as a good memory with the hope that perhaps I will dream of her again.
With all my heart, I wish the same thing for you and for all of us.0 -
I know how hard it must be for you but hope you can take some comfort from the support on here. When our Lily was run over last year I tried to go window shopping the next day as it was a Saturday and I had to get out of the house but had to come home after half an hour as I couldnt stop crying.
Daisy was dearly loved and you gave her a wonderful life. Hopefully her legacy will be for you to give another cat a wonderful life in due course.0 -
Thank you so much everyone
Quizzical Squirrel - what you wrote is so lovely and although it made me well up a bit, it also is so comforting.
We will definitely gove another cat a home. i just need to give OH a bit of time to get over losing Daisy as she was with him from the very beginning. He got her 10 years ago from the Cats Protection League when he was with his ex-wife, and she had been with him through so many life changes.
He is very stoic but I know he is really hurtingMetranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
Aww how sad - just found the thread
Was so hoping for a nice outcome
I know it's right for some people to wait, but for me I am nothing without at least one cat. I have two. When my Jerry went, I was heartbroken. As soon as my house move was complete, I was off scouring the CP pages for another one to love. They're not replacements, they're just more to be loved and homed. So many need lovely homes, it really does help me with the grief to have another. I was quite literally ringing round the next day when my Kola died. I was living on my own and she was my only cat. I stepped into that house the next night like my right arm was missing - and found myself talking like she was still there. Didn't want to be a mad old boot, so knew I just had to have some kitty company in that house as soon as possible.
Good luck. Let us know when you find another one to love... sorry for your loss. It's absolutely heartbreaking, I know.

MV.. I have been checking this thread when I could hoping Daisy would come home.
I am so very sorry it ended in this way.
You sound like the most wonderful cat owners and Daisy was very, very lucky to have had you to share her life with.

When humans die, they make a will
To leave their homes and all they have to those they love.
I, too, would make a will if I could write.
To some poor wistful, lonely stray
I leave my happy home,
My dish, my cozy bed, my cushioned chair, my toy.
The well loved lap, the gentle stroking hand,
The loving voice,
The place I made in someone’s heart,
The love that at the last could help me to
A peaceful painless end.
If I should die, Oh do not say,
“No more a pet I’ll have, to grieve me by it’s loss”
Seek out some lonely, unloved cat
And give my place to him.
This is the legacy I leave behind -
’til all I have to give.

Author Unknown,
This is lovely and says it all.
Perhaps the CPL and other rescue centres could hang it on their walls.
Thank you0 -
Oh so sad. Just read your thread from the start and was so hoping for a happy ending. At least Daisy had a loving home with you. x"'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
