Our cat is missing :(

I am so, so upset.

Our 10 year old, gorgeous female cat has been missing for over 24 hours now. She is completely a house cat, isn't really bothered with going outside except if we are out there/it's a nice day.

My father in law let her out yesterday morning at 10am as she was at the back door and wanted to go out. They then took my 2 children to the park for a couple of hours, and when they got back he went straight to the back door to let her in (she is usually waiting on the fence to be let in).

No sign of her..so he left the back door open all day until I got in from work at about 5pm, still no sign. Cue me getting twitchy as fireworks were starting to go off and she hadn't eaten since the morning.

She didn't come back.

Being out all night is unheard of, she NEVER EVER stays out. I even went out at 4am to see if she was there, and again at 7 and then regularly all day today. No sign.

I have knocked on all the neighbours doors and asked them to keep a look out and check sheds etc. OH is going to make up some leaflets to post through doors, but apart from that there is nothing we can do is there?

I feel like crying. I love her so much and want her to come home so desperately.

I think if she was a male cat or a roamer I wouldn't be so worried, but she is small, old and has a heart murmer. I fear she has been chased or set upon by one of the many bigger cats around here and her heart has packed up :(

She has a collar and a tag with her name and phone number, but she has been known to lose those. She is chipped with OH's old address (I know), so not much use there.

Can anyone offer me any words of comfort that she might yet return?

I'm so sorry to hear that your cat is missing.
Can you swiftly update the chip details with your new address just in case she's been found? I think you can do it online. Or at least contact the new residents and let them know they may be contacted if she's found.
Hope she comes home soon. xxx

    Nice to save.
  • Thanks sukey.

Unfortunately when my OH had her chipped as a kitten, they were living up in the Midlands and we are in London now.

Just to also add, she is never allowed out the front of the house, and has no access to it from the back garden as our garden backs onto more gardens. She never goes further than one or two gardens along either.

Try knocking on a few doors, she may be locked in someones shed or garage

Best hope is that she has got herself shut into someone's shed by mistake and suddenly appears. Worst is...... cat going missing overnight on 5th November (happened to us years ago and still feels so bad-she never came home.)

She could have been chased away by another cat and lost her bearings a bit- I would go round the local streets calling her name and listen very carefully for a reply. If she is genuinely lost then she could be hiding under a bush in a garden or something. I tracked down one of our old cats doing this after he had been missing 2 days, but I am in a rural area so it was easier to hear him calling back. It was odd because he really wasn't far away he just seemed to have lost track of where he was.

    I'm so sorry. :(

Is there a Facebook buying/selling stuff group for your local area? If so, you could put a post on there (ours gets lost pet posts) in case anyone spots her.

Lower-tech - door-knocking and putting flyers through doors that don't answer.

Keeping everything crossed that she breezes back in soon looking like butter wouldn't melt and oblivious to the panic she's caused. x
  • Sorry to hear about the missing moggy.

I was reading on Facebook at the weekend about a facebook friend of mine whose cat had gone missing (for a week) and they were given a top tip from someone which had worked for them.

What they did was emptied the contents of their vacuum cleaner in the garden to create a strong scent of home. As z.n said, she may have lost her bearings and this scent should help.

It sounds crackers but two success stories means it's got to be worth a try.
 - Just because I love this emoticon!

You might be surprised. I always thought one of our old cats just went out in the back and around the neighbours until one day walking home I met him in the local park a good mile away. He came up for a stroke and then was off and he got home before me.

Hope you cat turns up soon.
  • One of my neighbours suggested she may have been chased out of her familiar territory by another cat and got lost. Trouble is she has no access to the front of the house/road, and I can't get anywhere from our garden as directly behind our garden is a strip of wasteland full of branches/trees and then other peoples gardens.

OH is going to make a leaflet tmorrow at work to drop through letterboxes.

Its starting to get dark already :(

Does not matter - call the microchip company and give them old address they will be able to locate chip number and update to new address.

I Know there are 2 main ones of them only so if it is nto one it is another.

3 of my boys are chipped with Petlog, one if microchipped with Anibase.

Call both and check but my bet would be on Petlog as this one has been around the longest.

Call all the vets in the area too.

Hope she turns up soon xxx

I would suggest when she comes back to get rid of the collar and either do without it or get an easy snap one. Collars can easily snag on branches.....

The chances are that she will be back soon.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
