Waitrose snobbery

I haven't found our local one snobby, I did however have to explain to two members of produce staff what calabrese is which was quite worrying, I hate to think what would have happened if I had uttered the word parsnip or swede!A what??? I had no idea what calabrese is, but googled it and it's brocolli :rotfl:
I went to Waitrose today and bought 3 meats for £10 -- A whole chicken. Easily enough for 4 adults, with enough left over for a cold sandwich.
- A pack of braising steak for a stew. As above (except for the sandwich).
- An Aberdeen Angus rump steak which will stretch to 2.
What's not to like?0 -

I work at Waitrose, they pay more than the minimum wage AND we get a good bonus (15% last year). No one at our branch is on zero hours contracts. They are fantastic employers and when our local store opened in 2012, 900 people applied for the jobs there. As stated by other posters, customer service is taken very seriously so perhaps the partner was having an off day.0 -

The likes of Tesco etc also have a 3 meats for £10 offer. They're all pretty much the same...I also got a free (not terribly good) coffee and a newspaper with a £5 Lidl voucher....
What? You actually spend a whole £10 to get your free copy of the Daily Mail? Are you mad? I did it for £3.80.
P.S. You might say "newspaper", but I know it was the Saturday Daily Mail. No need to be coy. £5 is (after all) £5.:)
P.S.S. I quite like Waitrose coffee. In fact, I shall pop out in a moment and get one.0 -
Waitrose are the only ones out of all the major supermarkets to sell organic sweet corn. Being one of the most highly toxically modified foods, it is very difficult to get clean anywhere. Most should be avoided in favour of local produce though. Local businesses, giving local jobs, keeping the money in the community while all the decisions are made locally too.
I tend to get my frozen veg from Waitrose, my fish from Morrisons, diluting juice and other bits from ASDA, and get a fruit / veg box delivered each week to top things up. Shopping in the one place is as the old saying goes - putting all your eggs in one basket0
