Waitrose snobbery

  • I don't shop at Waitrose very much because I just can't bear to pay their prices..

Whenever I do the Asda price guarantee the next cheapest is almost Waitrose sometimes tied with Morrisons.
but she seems to spend most of her time stacking shelves now. I suspect I wasn't the only customer who complained. Honestly, she really was very rude.

Maybe she just prefers that over the till, most retail staff prefer doing shop floor work over the till.
  • Long live Waitrose, I have found that if you shop there taking heed of their offers the bill need not be that much different to Tesco Asda etc. Weetabix 72s at the moment £4 cheapest around, and the free coffee. You do not have to buy all your food at Waitrose meat is generally high priced.

Anyone else think that tesco is getting too expensive.

I had read the thread and my question was and remains unanswered. I was wondering why they are considered inferior?
Is it because they serve, is it because they tend to earn lower wages. Johnnytwostep seems to think he is superior, by implication, so again why does he think that?

    Do you know?

    Not the specifics I'm afraid.

It's probably just poor old Johnny over compensating for lacking a bit in the trouser department. :rotfl:

Agree with Tesco on prices, and REALLY poor quality on fresh veg, and also some really, really close dates.

My OH often stops at Tesco picking things up after work despite my protestations and he just grabs what he needs rather than looking (although that has changed now!).

More often than not he's rocked up home with sad looking veg, or if he buys a bag of carrots half are snapped and mouldy, or about one third of the size of anywhere else. I would've thought it was just him if it happened on a few occasions, but he's started to pay attention and REALLY has to hunt for veg that isn't manky.

He's also bought some packs of meat from there which only have 24 hours left on the date being charged full price. Again he's now paying more attention to it, but it's really hard to find meat with 2-3 days left.

    I don't know whether it's just our Tesco's but it's pretty dire!

Aldi, Lidl, can you match that?
Always baffles me why people film stuff on their mobiles? Get a life and carry on shopping.

I've not experienced snobbery at Waitrose because I have never been to one. Like with Sainsburys customers people must be a bit hard of thinking to pay their extortionate prices

You posted this in June 2013: "Had an ecclefechan tart on my way back from the highlands and cannot find them for love nor money in england. Both sainsburys and waitrose USED to sell them but not any more"

    Never been in Waitrose, eh?

Like a lot of people have said, Waitrose isn't nearly as expensive as a lot of people perceive it to be. Their Essentials range isn't far off prices at other supermarkets and the quality is far superior. But then again, you've never been to one, so you couldn't possibly know their prices ;)

Well where I live (a town with a population of about 100,000), Waitrose sell stuff that you just can't buy anywhere else (eg Gorwydd Caerphilly, rillettes). Their meat is also much better than any of the other supermarkets. There are only two butchers left in the town centre, and sadly neither of them are any good. Their branded goods are price matched with Tesco. And the staff are second to none. The whole shopping experience is a pleasure.

Don't know about anyone else but i don't shop for the "experience" i shop because i have to. My mission is to get in and out as quickly and cheaply as possible.

Just back from Aldi, in and out in less than an hour, total weekly shop £48.75. Thanks to the Daily Mirror's £5 off voucher :D

Some real bargains in there at the moment. I got two Himalayan Pink Rock Salt Grinders for 45p each !

I've always found Waitrose staff to be lovely and not the least bit snobby. I do wonder if the OP's view of people who shop there (I'm too young... I don't wear tweed...) might have had some effect on their perception of staff. I've been in there smartly dressed and fully made up and in slouchy clothes without a scrap of make up and it's not made the slightest bit of difference to the way staff have treated me.

Oh, I love Lidl. It keeps the plebs out of Waitrose. ;)
