Hiya Patman x I think if S/C didnt have my payment ratios so randomely set I would but as they are paying DCA with no interest accumulating more than my creation and barclaycard which are gaining min payment fail, interest, plus an extra twelve pound a month for the pleasure of letting me know I will be getting nowhere fast, I feel self managed at this time at least until the 2 cards and argos are cleared or hopefully 2 cards cleared and argos gone to a Dca... Thanks for the advice though I need it x

    Hiya Dragon :) !!

I hate to disagree with well-intentioned advice but IF you feel you can do it self-managed then DO :) !! You have mentioned some of the reasons in your post here....then start thinking of the F&F's and finishing your DMP much sooner than somebody who is sticking to the Step Change route.

Step Change require fair treatment of the predators because they are funded by the predators. They are wonderful but they will not / cannot look after your interests as well as you can yourself.

The only thing to say is you must communicate and respond promptly with the predators if you are self managed. I know some people struggle with this and they shouldn't go self-managed.

All the best with it Dragon.

    Brogden :) x
  • Hiya Monz as are you flower x step away from that Next card, America needs your cash more lol.

Thanks Brogden too I am in contact with all of my creditors apart from Barclays overdraft these I intend contacting and researching by new year. Thankfully the link to CAB Puzz gave me links to amazing advice, I can pay everyone again apart from Barclays online at least minimum payments it was just a Barclays loan and me spending like a maniac which financially crippled us now we are not living in an overdraft and paying loan we really believe we can sort this. So on we plod x

  • That time of week bleak and cold here in Wales but laptop is warm bah humbug !!! Brrr.

My weekly nightshift I loathe it and have a note here to pin to wall offering it to anyone who wants it in the office, then I remember my mission to clear this pile of debts hmmm. Can't do one without the other, so will change the wording to swap the shift I think..

Just checked the current accounts and we are still actually in the black I am so impressed and cannot remember a time not a few hundred in the overdraft or using credit cards to shop, eat out etc.. Christmas has come and gone in a flash here we have not had a day off together whatsoever, we are both off tomorrow though and can't wait to do nothing. Lil un is supposed to have a football match tomorrow morning but I can't see it the grounds are a sodden mess, that's without the freezing temperatures we have at the moment, hopefully it will be called off. And we can spend a lazy day together.

I re-joined slimming world this morning bought a countdown out of my Christmas money but will pay the rest of the cash into bank Monday morning if it's open. I will also pay in any other cash laying around the house my son has loads and loads of vouchers and cash so will get that away until he wants to buy something, we can always wander to cashpoint if he want's it sooner than anticipated. As it's pay day for hubby Wednesday anything spare in account will go straight off the Creation card which has a balance of £700 at the mo I think I can halve that Monday and then clear it by the Monday after..

I had a letter through the door today from Barclaycard, and I know it must seem like I am having constant digs at S/C and I totally realise this is my mess, but last month not only had a £12 fee as minimum payment wasn't made, it also had a £12 fee for going over the credit limit plus the interest. I urge anyone reading to check ALL balances monthly as this does not show on your S/C account. I will rectify this Monday and get this back into the limit but it's shocking how fast these charges pile up we could have happily have gone with S/C balances as I did the first month and was happy to see the totals drop by a few pounds, thank goodness for the DMP board and someone on there advised everyone to check balances as I really didn't have a clue they were still rising at a rate of knots. Naïve yes! guilty as charged.

I stripped my kitchen of all Christmassy antics this afternoon it's lovely and clean and uncluttered, also taken down the window lights and cards and nick knacks from living room, but left the tree up as it's gorgeous !! We remembered a few presents that haven't come to light so hubby is going up the attic in the morning to see what's up there and pop decorations away that's already down. I know it's way to early for most but they drive me bonkers after a few weeks. We have decided to crop our Christmas gift list further next year plus birthdays and other gift giving palavas. We have a few gifts left over so they are away and Mothers day is now covered, and I also have aftershave for hubbys birthday in a few weeks time I want to find tickets for something he will love, I wanted Foo Fighter tickets but travel and hotel in London plus tickets would have come to approx. £500 that isn't a normal birthday treat!

Yawn Yawn Yawn two hours and counting and I will be curled up in bed with my elec blanket !! I have been so good this year and avoided the sales like the plague, apart from a new halogen oven(ours broke before Christmas and it's something we used daily and saved us so much money not using our gas oven) we have a fair few hundred vouchers left over from Christmas so hoping to find a deal on one when we finally get out somewhere.

And that's basically it apart from I am going to download the YNAB free trial and have a nosey for a few weeks. And this evening I am going to start sorting my paperwork for these DMP letters.

    Well done Dragon!

I had two Barkleycards but paid them off before my troubles so I don't have experience of going through the mill with them. A lot of people on here are having issues though :(.

There may be a temptation to pay them more to cover the interest and charges but I think when you are self managing that they need tiny token payments to speed up the default, a letter of complaint with a promise from you to take them to the FOS unless they stop interest and charges. If you have advised them of your DMP already and you are feeling really cheeky tell them you expect them to refund all interest and charges they have already taken :) !!

    Good luck

    Good idea Brogden.
Can you get SC to refund the extra charges caused by their mismanagement?

It could be said that it's not mismanagement.......just BC wanting to be the way they are being :(

It is just worth reminding them it is the norm for creditors to stop interest and charges for those who have declared themselves to be in financial difficulty and who have been subject to a default. If interest and charges continue then a formal complaint should be made.
If you haven't defaulted under the agreement the computer will be saying.......Q. Charge interest?.......A. YES. In this case it could be more difficult to have interest and charges stopped.

    All the best with it,

    Brogden x
  • I know your right and will be requesting the charges back, Puzz again linked me to template letters for that, but I am just going to work hard and clear it thankfully our level of debt on cards isn't massive we dropped the limit on card to £1200 and with charges it's crept to £1230 and our creation is now £700 ..we are £200 odd over our limit on our bar clays overdraft which is also accumulating interest once I have slept I am going to check and post exact figures and ask advice on exactly where I should start, maybe clearing the 1 card is not the way to go maybe I should be getting back in credit limits and stopping the extra fees .. Thanks for the advice all x

Brogden I was thinking of the the fees for late payment rather than interest applied. If SC paid late and therefore incurred fees for AD I'd call that mismanagement.
