Annual domestic oil usage

My assumption is that for our 1997 vintage 3 brm bungalow in East Anglian with 2 pensioners in residence (ie at home a lot) we use 200 l./ month in Winter and 50 l./ month in Summer (hw only). Call it 8 months Winter and 4 months Summer that's 1800 litres per annum which is about our average over 10-12 years. The problem with such data is that people have widely varying standards - some won't switch the heating on at all until October or November., some use wood burning stoves or one bar electric fires and then boast of their boiler's super efficiency and so on.0

we just move in to a 5 bed detached house we went though 1000L in 4 weeks with the heating low about 16-19C temp in the rooms and using open fire to top up the heat in one of the front rooms I don't know if this is normal for the size of house?0

Sounds a lot. I'm in rural Scotland ( so pretty cold winters ), 5 bed house, heating on all day every day ( due to wife being a childminder). A 1200 litre tank lasts a good three months during the coldest winter, and about 6 or 7 months in the summer ( the oil provides heating & hot water, no other source of heat ). I'd suggest you look at what insulation you've got, and also check if the boiler has been serviced recently.0
