we have a motoring board which answers questions like this one :)
so I'll move this thread over there for you

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

c'mon Ivan. You should know thatr board guides don't read the thread they just move them. Otherwise Glad would have spotted post 2 by Nile stating that cos it's not about Moneysaving it was being moved to DT.

I don't know if anyone can help? My dad bought a car that already had a personalised plate on, an old escort without a roof. He hates the personalised plate and would love the original one back on. The original plate is stamped on the windows, is there any way of getting them back ( and obviously paying for it)!!

contact DVLA and see what they say ?

• I've had a personalised plate for many years. It was a present. But since becoming a moneysaver I can't justify this any longer and want to sell it to pay off my debts.

Anyone have any advice on the best way to go about selling? I've looked on the DVLA site but they don't deal with sales or recommend what to do to sell. Ebay I think would prove quite expensive with fees (unless anyone knows better). My plate was bought for £999 back in 1999 I think but not sure what it's worth now?

I know there are internet sites but not sure who to trust or how much they would take in fees.

Any advice most appreciated:beer:

I'd suggest contacting some of the larger companies trading in personalised regs. They will give you a valuation without obligation. Obviously that valuation will not be as much as a private sale, but it gives you something to work on.
Another way of selling is via a DVLA auction (yes, they do sell) which are held regularly. You can always set a reserve price.
