    each to their own!

i am sure people think stuff i do/own is tacky!

i drive a banger of an old car and when my stereo, i-pod, phone, sat nav, digital camera and assoicated lenses are in the car it probably triples in value (probably more!!!), some folks would say i should get rid of all that stuff and invest in a decent car!

I'd not say tacky, just not what I'd spend my money on.
new stereo ? the one in my car is superb, pluse I rarely listen to music
I-pod ? whats one of those then ?
sat-nav, I use Wife Nav :rotfl:
Digital camera, mine with mega pixels & 'auto function' does everything that I need

But, you spend your money on that kit and it makes you happy, I spent my money on a personal plate and it made me happy.

The rest of the world can go hang.........................

I think the tacky plates are those (not just cherished/memorable ones) where Chavs have used illegal fonts, mis-spaced letters etc.

I agree :T that's tons worse than a personal plate.

I've got a personal plate. Can be a bit of a pain when transferring but worth the hassle :D

Agreed I've got no probs with proper personal/cherished plates but it makes my blood boil that you never hear of any prosecutions for these idiots who change fonts, mis-space etc. There's usually a 50/50 chance that they are the same lunatics that fit their cars with 10 inch diameter exhaust pipes. I don't know why the Police don't hit them hard they stand out like a sore thumb.

the worse ones (and I cant believe they get away with it) are those who place the black fixing screws in order to change a letter, like making the letter I into an L - Chavs must have their own rules :rotfl:

    You can't have 'I' on a numberplate!!!

Saw an awful one whilst 'parked' on the M4 at about 1am last night ( )

Was originally T88 SUN but had yellow fixing screws to make it THE SUN (!!!!!!??). Awful.

I have private plates on my car - they are car specific (not a BMW 4x4 though Andy ;)) and the plates are worth about 3 times as much on the car as off them. No dodgy spacing or dodgy fixing screws needed either!

There are all those cheap NI plates that have Is and Zs on them. Quite popular to disguise your car's age if you care.
    Can I help?

Ulster plates are OK if your name happens to be available. There are plenty of them for BAZ, GAZ, and others, including the one for my OH, which is KAZ. She's been called that since she was a kid, so got the plate. And, yes, they are quite reasonable.

The cheapest ones are about £49 though, and used by operators of scuzzy old coaches to try and kid you they are newer than 1975!

The tackiest plates are the ones that try to be something special but you can never quite wirk out what it is trying to be (sort of like those tattoos on your lower back ... they draw attention but offer nothing else). Especially in the UK the plates are often rubbish ... now go to America and you get really good personalised plates.

The difference in the US (I believe) is that you can basically have any word you want as long as it isn't offensive (or the authorities don't notice it's offensive). There are a small number of local exclusions as well. You can't have any plate with GOD on it in NY for example.
There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.
