I had another cup of tea.....

Don't think I got that job I went to the interview for, feel slightly gutted as it felt like it went really well, even if the hours were slightly scary...oh well.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Never mind SingleSue. Keep trying.

That's the thing with job applications, it's all about the numbers really. You can apply for a job and not get it just because you were unfortunate enough to come up against someone incredibly good or perhaps the CEO's daughter. In the end you will be the best person in the room.

The problem these days is that with the internet and email it has become almost cost free to apply for a job: it takes about a minute to email off a CV whereas in the old days you had to photocopy a CV, buy a stamp etc. which took time and cost money. As a result, people used to apply for jobs that they had a reasonable chance of getting rather than any old thing so you're up against hundreds of people. Try putting up a minimum wage job on Gumtree, you'll be amazed how many CVs you get.

To be honest, I was chuffed I got through to the interview stage, not easy in the current market especially with the horrendous gap in my work record.

I won't let it dishearten me though, as I said, I am a determined begger.

I'm with you. I had to keep going through almost 2 years of unemployment and under-employment.

It's only really now that I can say that I have a job that's potentially better than the one I left in the UK and even then it'll take about a year for it to become actually better.

Says she who still has tickets from her hol last Oct littering her handbag :o

I have odd tickets stashed in various places, when I try and sort out drawers or declutter I find them again, takes me back to that time, little time warps! ;) Just before DD1 was 5 I took her to London for a couple of days (back then you got free rail travel for under 5s on some deals). We saved every receipt, and some paper napkins with named places on, and picked up the free info leaflets and also bought a few post cards. When we got home she made a scrap book using all the stuff, and wrote about the trip and took it into school to show her teacher. I wonder if she kept that book. Anyway, you could do something similar to remember your holiday and include your receipts. Memory is such a strange thing, a scrap of crumpled paper really can bring memories tumbling back!
I'm wondering if we could find old doors and use them as cupboard doors. ( the hanging stuff is in an alcove that we could turn into a built in cupboard and then make better use of really. I've seen loads of French shutters for sale but would prefer something solid I think.

Being in the middle of a moth infestation I would definitely advise solid doors over French shutter types ones! :)

Every day I keep a notional 1000 calories in mind. I know I go over, but I am aware of the calories in what I eat and just think in terms of 1000/day so I don't become the size of a planet.

Today I've defrosted some bread and used up two hard boiled eggs from the fridge, so first I had an egg/tomato/salad cream sandwich (breakfast), then the sausage rolls (600 calories there!), mash and gravy (late lunch), then another sandwich of just egg/salad cream.

Just the sausage rolls and bread alone were my 1000 calories - everything else was over...

My general lifestyle means I am aware of what calories are in food; I think in terms of heading for 1000 calories/day; every day I go over that (by quite a bit) ... but the awareness means I'm not doubling my portions and fooling myself I'm eating less than I am.

Interesting way of dieting, and something I hadn't really thought about.

Pastures, you mentioned my doughnuts and pizza the other week, and probably worked out that the way I'm thinking about dieting is to eat less rather than changing my (tbf quite abysmal) diet.

Burgers are going from half pounder to quarter, although still with bacon and chips, and if I'm still home about 8am, it's now 2 sausage rolls or a bacon sandwich from Dorringtons, not both.

The main problem I have now is over Christmas and New Year, where I can easily put on what I've lost over the course of the year, probably larely because it's the only time I really drink in the year now.

Similarly in Georgia over the summer, I can easily lose a lot of weight, as most of what I eat has 2-3 potatoes added (for a meal for 4-6), purely as it's filling and doesn't detract from the taste.

I've noticed that the ring on the top has some give in it now over knuckle, whereas there was virtually nothing just after new year, so that's probably a good sign that the weight is going down.

I've got a splitting headache this morning, so don't think I'm going to be in the office for too much longer today.

LIR, I have some very old cupboard doors that have been well loved.

My client opted to rip out a big kitchen cupboard - floor to ceiling (3.6m). I put them to one side as they're far too good for the skip.

Not sure if they will fit what you want but I can take a photo of them if you would like. They'll need a courier now Mr has downsized vehicle.

For is going through them and in one he found a receipt for drinks from our second date. He's very excited about this and had to be separated from both the receipt and the bag. :rotfl:

Aww - well that one brings HIM joy - and seeing him happy brings YOU joy. So that one's a keeper!
