We always use the Toll road. Best fiver you'll ever spend. I resisted it for a while when it started, simply because it cost a few quid, but somebody pointed out that economy should be my servant and not my God.
If you're starting from London or the SE then I believe you. The M6 toll isn't much use if you're starting from the SW and coming up the M5 from somewhere SW of Birmingham, as I am, though.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Or, as the old fella at the end of village always tells you: "If I were going there I'd not start from here"0 -
I read that there was a conference in WWII about penicillin and everybody that attended had to press their thumb on a a culture plate of the mould and press it to the inside of heir jacket pockets. The idea that if a bomb flattened the factory they could cut a bit of fabric out and restart production anywhere in the country.
The original research was done here, but the large scale production was done in the USA. They sent someone down to the market to bring back a mouldy melon in order to start production. Anyway, that's the story as I heard it. Ernst Chain got a Nobel prize for it, and his son runs the synagogue DW and I were married in. Small world.
Edit Not quite. 'After a worldwide search in 1943, a mouldy cantaloupe in a Peoria, Illinois market was found to contain the best strain of penicillin for production using the corn steep liquor process.[33] ' http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penicillin.
So I guess keeping multiple copies would make sense. I'll change my mantra. Lydia and Zag are always right. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
On another note, we switched fuel deals in December and already the energy club are telling me I could save a couple of 100 ( minus a £60 early exit penalty) by switching again. Worth it I suppose, but has anybody here switched that quickly from deal to deal?
I switched to a new12 month fix about 3 months ago, the £50 tcb has now paid out so I guess even with he exit penalty it may be worth switching again, thanks for the heads up.I think....0 -
Probably is still worth switching.
Year before last were on a standard tariff, so I did the switch on my mum's behalf. She's one of these won't make a fuss sort of people, even though it saved her a packet and I did it all online... Anyway I said to her that it was very likely British Gas would ring her after we'd switched trying to get her to stay. But I'd compared similar tariffs and British gas's were not cheaper than the npower one I'd switched us to.
Anyway I get home one day and yep they'd phoned, and yep she'd decided to stick with BG. 'It's only £2 more on the direct debit and it's fixed until February 2015 rather than March 2015' Fine, wasn't going to kick up a fuss. Anyway, it wouldn't have been a problem but because as far as NPower were concerned we were switching and as faras BG was concerned we were switching. So we had two switches going on at once, various sets of letters asking for details, readings, bank details. Bills for £5 for a weeks usage and so on. Now that it's coming to an end we need to switch again, saving £276 and she's reluctant to do it because she doesn't want to go through all that again!
What I'm trying to say in a long winded way is don't try and switch unless you're definitely all sorted with the new tariff.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
I've 'switched' several times via the links in this sites pages over the years, but until now, I've always stayed with the same supplier but on a different tarriff, have always got the £30 cashback though. At the moment, I am actually switching supplier, will save me over £200 per year and I'm going for that £30 cash back again.
So I say go for it if its going to save you money.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Surprisingly the gross saving available is 206 - less 60 early termination fee plus 40 tcb = a good saving. Thanks Zag.I think....0

I have only 3 words for you ...
... Black Cat Roundabout
I get quite excited on the rare occasion I have to use the Black Cat Roundabout. It's some kind of minor celebrity on the local news, so it makes me smile whenever I go round it. Its a nightmare traffic-wise though.0
