Odd as it sounds there's something about the A1 that I quite like.

    Worse than mushrooms IMO.

it's a hideous road. I did once do London to Edinburgh on the A1 entirely. Pretty much lost the will to live by the end of it.

That stretch from Edinburgh to Newcastle is just atrocious.

Been to lottie and paid rent and filled in form for parking permit. Now have icicles instead of nose and fingers! ;) We have onions and garlic sprouting nicely, but no sign of the shallots. I'm wondering if they started poking through the soil and the pigeons have had them, or if the mice have had them. I'm hoping they're just slow growing though cos I love shallots!

OH just seen fox in back garden. Came in, looked around, went into next door and then came back and out the way he first came in. Mature fox, we think prob one of the cubs we saw about 3 years ago. The old fox seems to have disappeared, which doesn't surprise as he was limping badly last time we saw him.

We also got seed potatoes at lottie, so will get them chitting on kitchen window sill. Maris Bard, Kestrel and Desiree. Wanted to get compost too, but he's only doing spuds today - shop will be open again a week tomorrow, so will get compost then to start some early seeds off. Need to order seeds, as we didn't get the lottie catalogue this year.

Regarding the drive to Leeds. I used to do that regularly though to near Harewood (which is north of the centre) rather than to centre itself. Took about 2 and a half hours to 2 45, though I would allow an hour extra. I would go up M1 though. It is a faster road than A1 if there aren't roadworks. Though I have benefit of being close enough to M1 to make that viable.

From here, I expect to be north of the M6 split within 1 hour and passing Sheffield in about 2. Roadworks and camera dependent of course.

On the other hand, going anywhere in NW was always awful. I dislike the M6 a lot. Going to Manchester would take me longer to get to than Newcastle.

Toll road makes it a lot easier, though the section round Stoke is still bad. I often run the M1 up to J24 and across on the A50 - apart from one bad junction in Stoke which is being sorted out, it's a good option.

As I am in NP Central next week, I'm currently in work trying to clear my desk. It's better than it was, but not as good as it could be. Ho hum.

I made the bed today. Not made the bed, but really went to town. I cleaned the wood word, I bi carbs then vacuumed then fe breezed the matress. I have been laundering the pillows through the week. I hung out the throw, febreze the bejeezus out of it and beat the devil out of it. THEN I made the bed. Then the cat came and vomited all over it.

Afraid to say I laughed when I read that. Hope all is OK now.

Went to Stockport last summer. Usually takes two and a half hours, but I had reckoned without it being Friday afternoon in the summer holidays. Got in the car at lunchtime-ish. Satnav said 3h30 to our destination. Drove for 3 hours. Satnav still saying a further 3h30 to go. Did eventually get there about six and a half hours after setting off.

We usually do M5-M6-A7 to my brother in Midlothian most summers, often stopping off at the Stockport friends on the way there or the way back. It usually starts being bad around Birmingham, and gets a lot better once we're past Preston.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

We always use the Toll road. Best fiver you'll ever spend. I resisted it for a while when it started, simply because it cost a few quid, but somebody pointed out that economy should be my servant and not my God.

The midlands needs more motorway connections with the north.

Yes, ( back on macputer now). But you can get a bad experience with lots of things. The last bad experience was with prawns ( shudder) on my birthday either last year or the year before. Either way, I'm still a bit pit off prawns but have eaten them since.

Oysters are one of the best meals possible. Unless they aren't. In which case they are one of the best diets possible. :rotfl:
