" there are even indications that, overall, this is the beginning of the end.... where the end occurs after several months of falls, short hospitalisations, infections and stuff."

Sadly, this is what happened with MIL. I think it makes a lot of difference how the patient feels. MIL simply gave up on life. If the patient wants to go on, that can help a lot.

If all your life consists of is getting up, eating, then going to bed - surrounded by others sitting around. Nobody's "chatting" as there aren't many marbles around .... with a backdrop of others ranting, or doing peculiar things ... and nobody really visits you more than once a week for 10 minutes, then 2-3 days in a row for an hour apiece every 2-3 months. What, really, IS there to go on for?

Marbles are everything. Health and marbles.

The trouble with MIL was that she could not remember when she was visited!

Given a choice between health or marbles, which would you choose, if you had to?

Earlier this week I posted about our clutter of coats. Yesterday DD wore the previously unworn coat. Progress I thought. Today a parcel from Joules was delivered. "it's my new coat" said DD. She has hoarder tendencies but has said she will dispose of another coat.

I am testing gas and electric monitors.

The idea is that you can see how much you are using at any time and monitoring encourages you to reduce usage.

Was fiddly to set up but now seems to be working. "Working" as in I can see what I am using, not as in reducing consumption. Early days, open minded.

I should say that I got it free to trial.

Difficult one. Probably health, because then at least you're independently walking around thinking it's 1950, rather than knowing it's 2015 and unable to do anything without other people poking you about.

The trouble is, it's not usually a choice of one or the other; the ageing process often takes both in different bites.
