A cousin of DW explained to me that her job was designing the interior colour schemes of aircraft. With characteristic tact, I asked her how this could possibly take more than a few hours to do? She then explained how intricate the job was and that it took many months of hard graft to achieve a satisfactory result. Sadly, there must have been some truth in my question, because she was made redundant soon afterwards.
I've always heard its unwise to worry about how your former workplace will get by after you leave it. Not many of us are doing jobs where we're irreplaceable, or in some cases even necessary at all.:oThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
DS2's job is going
He knew he was at risk and had been looking for other things. Only good news is that they have offered him a really interesting project to do for the chief exec for a 6 month fix term. Should get him some exposure in his sector at least.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Dare I ask what he does? And surely six months is as long as anybody feels secure these days? It may well be longer than David Cameron has.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Just a bit of a worry with only 2 yrs experience post education.

If I had my time over, I'd do a more specific masters like that. Mine's an MBA. I enjoyed doing it, but the person that you are supposed to be at the end of it just isn't me. I couldn't schmooze or groin thrust if my life depended on it.
I find the whole MBA thing seems to produce people who don't care a great deal about the people in the business, or pay lip service only.
Away all of next week and have a meeting with someone who actually got an OBE for cost cutting. I've mildly explained about drivers hours and the that drivers are human beings, I suspect I will be repeating myself.PasturesNew wrote: »Many people take themselves far too seriously and think what they do really, really matters.

Just because it could continue with out you doesn't mean it could , tee hee GDb, take off without one.
Just because a role is not ongoing doesn't mean its not important. As individuals none of us are that important in the scheme of things, but short term contributions don't necessarily have small value.
I spent a lot of last summer trying to make sure things at the wreck will tick over quite well with out my input for example. Still like to think my input has value,. Value that in many aspects is only relevant to while I'm here but in other areas might endure or at least start from a better position than I found them in.

If I wasn' there to do my job then my employer would need to get somebody else to do it instead. There are plenty of other people who could do it just as well as I do, though.
The place where I am really irreplaceable is at home, at least until my kids are grown up.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Just had a bill, after 6 months, that seems to be based on actual readings and not estimates - and I'm £150 in credit. So my guesstimate was about right.
I do now need to change/find the cheapest supplier, now I've got some workable readings. I'm on a "pricey" rate as I went with British Gas' standard tariff, so I could change on a whim at any point and not be tied into anything.
Urgh. I had a really long fixed rate. The MSE energy club has been emailing me, about once a month for three months telling me I can save.
Looked at the weekend. Rte ended, put onto standard tariff - could be saving £575 a year  I've put in to swap now but most of that saving would have been the last three months they were emailing meEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
