We had the most wonderful tuna steaks tonight :)

I marinaded them in olive oil, coriander, salt, pepper, lemon juice, worcester sauce (I thought we had soy but we didnt :o ). Seared them on the griddle.

    Really beautiful.

    Mum made a great salad.

Washed down with a great Sauvignon Blanc.

    Nom :)

we are having a chinese take away. OH is exhausted, I am useless. rest of week meal planned but no plan or shopping for tonight.

You shouldn't need an excuse or reason for a Chinese takeaway ... I have to stop myself from justifying it too often :o;)

You'll be eating ALL night if you've got 20 chicken portions to get through ;):p:rotfl:

Dg has a sporty teen (?) son. I'd wonder if twenty portions are enough from the way som boys eat :rotfl:

Gone off the idea of pears now, but they are done for tomorrow. Fir was right, I needed protein, I fell on the salmon like a starving bear. The broccoli was good though.....( having argued so strongly just for broccoli for supper earlier today I feel the need to keep defending it now).

I feel so much better for eating. I must try and remember to eat more protein. I cannot imagine why I keep blanking it out, I'm being lackadaisical about planning and i'm missing to many meals and grabbing stuff and so I need to maybe make sure I grab something for the fridge I can cook quickly.

I'd like a chinese. Had one other week. Trouble is, having to choose rice or noodles. I chose noodles last time. Whichever I choose I always wish I'd chosen the other one. Sweet/sour chicken balls and plain chow mein (or egg fried rice).

Apart from the high cost (they used to be cheaper!) and the calories, I can rarely be bothered to drive out to get one as parking can be so tricky, they never have car parks and are always on roads with double yellow lines.

One chinese does me for that night and some for the next day.... I wish they'd have more "dishes for one", where you get, say, 5 balls, rice and noodles and the S/S sauce. There was one in Cornwall that did that, for about £4.50. except it was rice or noodles. But certainly " a meal for one, in one container for a justifiable price"

Some advertise buffet Sundays. Maybe that's an answer?

I never used to like broccoli until I discovered tender stems broccoli. Flavour seems to match the texture better.

Going to give Aldi a try on Monday :). It's close to my house and I drive past it every morning, so it's time.

Any NP bargains to keep an eye out for?

Each week they do the super six fruit and veg, they are a good buy and cheap.

Their own loaves (malted or white) in a paper wrapper - 57p - great price and good value.

Currently they have six cans of Heinz tomato soup for less than £3, though it is also on special at Asda at the moment.

I like the choc chip cookies and dark choc topped biccies, and their version of taste the difference yoghurt too.

Household cleaning stuff is good also.

I have the choice of the entire eclectic selection of Herts library ebooks (well those that aren't good enough for anyone else to take out) without leaving my computer desk but nonetheless Maggie's image of boxes of new books are somehow very evocative of something pleasant, there was the story this week of the guy locked in Waterstones after it closed and I have to say I agreed with those who commented on why he had asked to be let out.....

I love new books. I get to order them (which is exciting in a geeky kind of way) and sometimes unpack them when they arrive (also exciting). In terms of ebooks, a big issue for all library authorities is that a lot of publishers don't allow their titles to be loaned in digital form, which leads to strange gaps in the collection.

Wouldn't bother me in the least. On occasions where it used to happen I was pleased to be able to rudely read at a table and in public. A double whammy social transgression that only I was the victim of. Super.

I love broccoli. I especially love the stems. I like the 'trunk ' but the best. Its so sweet and delicious. I prefer that to sprouting broccoli ( but sprouting we find easier to grow). Fir likes broccoli even more than me though, he eats heads of broccoli raw sometimes through the week at work, kind of munching on them like toffee apples or lollipops. I like raw broccoli, but I'd find it a bit daunting not chopped up like crudite. Certainly as a regular thing.

There is one Chinese AYCE restaurant I drove past two years ago that do buffet all day long, with different meals being offered at different times of the day. That was "quite cheap" but it's one of those locations where you're en-route, so always think it seems interesting, except you're not local so would always be on the way somewhere ... and it's probably a 40 mile round trip from here.

I'll be going to one of these in a week's time.
