Gen, there's a new book coming out, January I think, on how to be a food writer. I have no idea if it is any good, there are others in the series. I saw it this week while doing my book buying. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Morning all, mushrooms on toast consumed and was delicious. Can't believe I've had one of my five a day this early. And no, I wasn't inspired to do ironing.Spend less now, work less later.0

This morning we're having stewed tomatoes on soda farls. Fir loves to make soda farls, they are so quick, and i love stewed tomatoes. Supreme comfort food. Weather is meant to be better today so fuelling for some actual work.
Have to say, doesn't look that promising out there though.0 -
I've taken the Generalissimos to the club for the meat raffle again. I'm feeling poor this week so I only bought $20 of tickets. So far we've won a steak tray. It's about 3lbs of either sirloin or T bones.
I've been thinking a lot about my future. What do the nice people think of the idea of me chancing my arm at being a food writer? I like writing and am very passionate about food. I thought I could do a growing & cooking blog and try to turn it into a book/newspaper column.
Do it. I'd happily subscribe tomthe Genrali food channel
. Subscribe to Digital Marketeer online in whatever form and Entrepreneur.com. I've liked Ryan Deiss on facebook, I like it when random things pop up on my feed for me to digest. I'm not doing much of it, but there's a lot in my head. The more you begin to create, the more you will have to sell. Once you have a book, you can self publish anyway and it gives you a perceived credibility already.
I wouldn't worry about competition too much. It's a waste of energy. The world is big and there's always room. Digital marketing seems to move quite quickly but there are people keeping up and diseminating information freely. You need to create your 'category of one'.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Go for it while your between jobs.
As others have said you need a way to distinguish yourself from the crowd. You've got the storyline - with cancer treatment knackering your taste buds, you sought ways to make food tasty.....experimented in the kitchen while recovering....wrote your first book as an effort to help others rekindle their joy of food....I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I think you deserve a break and doing something you enjoy is a benefit in itself even if it the end it doesn't bring in much money. We bring in more than 100 GBP leveraging our credit ratings, for example this month I referred DW to open a nationwide bank account. We each got 50 from nationwide when she used their switching service, we got 80 cashback from quidco and now she will get 5% interest for a year on 2500, only this last is taxable. There is also credit card intro cash back offers and matched betting, a couple of hours a month could easily cover the income deficit you mentioned before and give you plenty of time to build other income streams.I think....0 -

Apart from the high cost (they used to be cheaper!) and the calories, I can rarely be bothered to drive out to get one as parking can be so tricky, they never have car parks and are always on roads with double yellow lines.
One chinese does me for that night and some for the next day.... I wish they'd have more "dishes for one", where you get, say, 5 balls, rice and noodles and the S/S sauce. There was one in Cornwall that did that, for about £4.50. except it was rice or noodles. But certainly " a meal for one, in one container for a justifiable price"
we had veg spring rolls
crispy duck
kung po chicken
beef chow mein
veg curry
2 x fried rice
prawn crackers
this was for 3 of us £29.90 . there as a lot left over which we binned.
I could make up the pancakes one handed so that was good too.
we ate off trays on our laps whilst watching dad's army. dd was watching x factor elsewhere. Imagine The Royle family but in Hampshire.0 -

The snag is that Gen is in a potentially very lucrative field. He has expertise and experience. If he takes a year or two off, he loses ground and becomes progressively less likely to find a job. In general, people looking to recruit like the reassurance that the person they are recruiting is in employment. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

oh Joy. I once sent my apologies to an unmissable meeting, some had travelled from liverpool to hampshire for it . I explained I had headlice. my apologies were minuted including a note annotating (nits).
DD had been the source. I had not known the recent 'dandruf' was eggs. it was only when i scratched my own head and a wee beastie was caught in my nail that I found we had 'pets'.0
