Interesting. I'm ashamed how little I know about the different branches of Christianity in this country.
I thought that Catholics were in the main "High church" so would dress up/ smart to go to church, in the same way that they adorn their churches, whereas more low church groups like Methodists would feel less of a need to be smart. Or is it local custom?it is varied by the feel of each individual congregation. I am RC and as a child always wore a mantilla to Mass but not to other things such as confession. adult women wore hats or mantillas. At a nuptial mass in Kildare a few years ago I was wearing a hat so thought nothing of the headgear of others, the following Sunday I ttended the same church to accompany my aunt to Mass. As we we enrered the church she reached into her hand bag and brought out a neatly folded mantilla for me. She was wearing a hat.
The church I mostly attend now is c of e. It is a bit of a middle class club, and as I am not a regular worshipper, but go to services such as Rememberance Day people are usually smartly dressed, but I think they dress smartly anyway, our previous vicar was trendy and the church attracted families and was more casual then.
( I did another post earlier but it disappeared)
I think there is hugely diverse cultural impact on rc congregations. I've been to rc churches in lotsa places though. And yes, there is congregational impact, and cultural one. Maybe also socioeconomic one, like other areas of dress sometimes.
I've worn v casual wear in rc churches around the world, but personally wouldn't have my shoulders uncovered, others do. e.g. I Happily wear sundresses in to churches in hot places but cover my shoulders when I'm in them. I'm often the only person to bother. . I think this is cultural rather than religious. E.g. In my area as well as some v smart British stiff upper lip types, who'd go in what they are wearing on Sunday ( trousers, jumpers, kids I. Jeans, t shorts jumpers) I noticed there was one of those gypsy weddings filmed locally. My guess is what we'd wear to the same local persons funeral, for example, might differ..
At school we wore uniform or mufti to church or in the chapel, but I cannot remember ever seeing any one go in in sportswear. ( oh, apart from sports teachers, there you go, sportswear was ok too!)
On the contrary, when I've been to c of e the protocol has been to scrub up a bit. In general they have smarter churches ( wry grin, nothing more said) and make a bit more of an effort. Shamefully reflecting on me I suppose if I try and put it into words my best attempt middling middle, looking, evaluation. But that perhaps suggests meaner than I think it is. Spirits word club might be closer. Words like legion, or society, or union.. Even out side uk, or, even more so.
I cannot remember what we did at Christian Science church.0 -
micheals. how are you all ow and where are you all staying a house or hotel?
we once went to Colarado skiing for two weeks. day 1 the nanny got altitude sickness, day 2 OH got flattened on the slopes, was also disoriented by the altitude and refused to ski thereafter, DAY three the 4 year old dd got bullied at ski school and refused to go back.
this malaise lasted for 10 days. Then nanny came out skiing, then Oh agreed to come out with me . we had a few pleasant runs then i wiped out a snake of small children skiing down in front of me. I twisted my knee and had to be sldged off the mountain by the rescue team. The next three days the nanny and oh skied whilst I stayed home with dd.
the saving grace was te great condominium we had with terrace and hot tub direct access to snow for snow play for dd. A hotel would have been worse.
The Holiday was expensive and meant to be a treat as oh had recovered from ME after two years of being debillitated0 -
Fir has been on the phone to medical centre this morning. Endocrinologist phoned to say they'd f*cked something else up. Now his secretary is trying to sort so etching out. I missed a date opportunity because they hadn't contacted me and they've been failing to respond to enquiries from medical team.
Anyway. Upshot is, they want to do more blood tests just because. Good idea I suppose. And I wouldn't have been able to do date with a cold.

That sounds the best bit anyway..
As a non skiing person I'd have gone on that sort of holiday too.0 -
I've just realised I forgot to pack my lunch this morning. I've had to resort to one of my Emergency Instant Soups.

It's showing on the page as £939.00 SAVE £590.00 £349.00 so I'll press the buttons to see if it does end up half price, or not.
From the post I can't understand what discount he got/why - and the devil might be in the detail.
Have you figured it out?
Use the code at the end of the second para in the HUKD opening post - the double (4 drawer) comes up as £174.50 (Plus £7.95 delivery)
Just had a quick look and can't see the headboards, but I'm sure that could be sorted out easily enough afterwards.
Edit: and using just that same one code, 2 4-drawer doubles is £261...0 -

So I searched for tesco.com in my Inbox and there was the confirmation email that I received when I changed my address with them in mid December - and I checked the email address that was sent to and it's the one I'm telling them to send the "forgot" email to. So there goes another 40 minutes.
It's in junk, maybe?
Worth setting up a new account? These deals don't always last very long, once they are hot on HUKD.
Edit: Showing as expired now.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
We are lucky enough to be able to stay I'm the house we had rented, nice views but no hot tub....
Doc concerned chest still not good so I got some physio today which basically seemed to consist of trying to beat the gunk out of me.
And things seem to be getting worse, we are next door to my parents house and my dad is developing a cold, at his age he certainly doesn't need it to be what we brought... And DD1 appears to have it although doc today said her chest is OK currently but I know the chest gets going laterMain priority is that new niece who was here over NY didn't catch it.
PN sorry the bed didn't work out but half hukds end with cancellation emaiols anyway so perhaps you have just avoided making Mr t a short term interest free loan.I think....0 -

Maggie How are you both?
Thanks for asking IvyLeaf. We're still both struggling rather. OH seems able to do one thing a day - last week he pruned apple tree (it's short, so not a ladder job or complicated) and the crab apple tree, but that finished him for the day. Days he goes to shops he doesn't do anything else other than cooking, and maybe some washing up. He still feels pretty carp, not been to see his Mum since just before we went to London at Xmas. It's about 45 minutes drive each way, so think he's not ready to go yet. We think he's prob not infectious now, the second lot of antibiotics do seem to have worked, he's just left feeling a bit weak and feeble from them still!
I seem to have settled into a routine of one day up for about half the day, then a day in bed to recover. Bit frustrating as have garden stuff want to get on with, though given the rain and wind we've had the last few days I wouldn't be gardening anyway! :rotfl: Had root canal on Friday, going back for it to be finished off a week on Friday, then it's the hygienist the next Friday and then final polish of restored teeth by dentist the Friday after that, and he'll sign me off for 6 months.
We have to be fit and up on 24 Jan as it's Rent Day at the lotties, plus there's a meeting about what the bleep is going to happen as they don't have enough on the committee, so we have to be there at 10am! A time of morning I don't normally admit exists! The Holiday was expensive and meant to be a treat as oh had recovered from ME after two years of being debillitated
I didn't know your OH had had ME, Spirit. He's one of the lucky ones to make a recovery. In the first 2 years is prime time to recover. I've been sick since March 1992. I did attempt a part time degree course (Applied Psychology) in the early days of being ill, but had to drop it at around the half way mark as just couldn't take the travelling in and out of town (in car, not public transport) plus the library was so disabled unfriendly it was a joke really. Mostly I just bought as many books as I could afford. Bit sad I didn't finish, but it really had become more than I could cope with. Just 2 or 3 lectures a week, and couldn't do it.
