Unless you had booked fully flexible fares (at ££££) they wouldn't have got any money back.
When you tell them you are fit to fly they will book your flights.
Were you flying direct? I seem to remember you found cheaper fares by going indirect. The insurance will book you on direct flights home.
Surprisingly although the flights were supposedly unchangeable the ba website was offering the chance to do so for 350 EUR each plus any difference in fare. Still they now say they just need uk gp to confirm we didn't have existing lung problems then will rebook once we are foot to fly...little concerned dd1 reports being slightly warm and DW complaining of headache.
Still super saints have cheered me up tonight and being outside uk it was on TVI think....0 -

If a job finished on a Friday, by Wednesday of the next week I'd be temping and then first job offer gets me. Repeat every year, since about 1985.
Continuing with your domestic abuse analogy ... I'm not sure that taking the first one that offers works any better with employers than it does with romantic partners. You end up getting offers from the ones who pick desperate people because they haven't got what it takes to attract the more cautious and discriminating types.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Dear PasturesNew, I know exactly where you are coming from with this. It really is a totally oppressive way to live. But you don't have all that going on now, you are leading your own life, and doing it in an amazing way! :j You already seem to be more confident - you bought a fridge freezer despite being a bit worried. Yay PasturesNew you are making a good life for yourself and you are getting there, come summer you will have loadsa fun collecting shells.:A

Small companies tend to be pretty hit and miss as employers - if your boss is a nob then there is no way around it other than to leave (or be fired). In owner managed businesses you often find the boss seems to take everything personally - if you drop a biro and tread on it that's 7p less profit in his pocket. Day off sick? Less money for the boss. Want a payrise? Don't make me laugh...
In larger employers it is often very easy to shift sideways into other roles to get away from people you don't like or to find a job that is more your thing. Plus managers tend to have more training and there is a proper HR function which you can get some help from. Of course there are other issues - like ludicrous bureaucracy - to put up with.
Of course lots of small companies are great and many large ones are utter disasters employment wise, but on balance I much prefer to work for a large organisation. I don't think I would ever apply for a permanent role at a small company.0 -

You certainly aren't alone in that.
I have just ordered a new laptop for the swimming club. Spent ages on research but goodness only knows if it will be any good. For some reason computing/printing equipment doesn't tend to like being operated in the gallery/poolside at a swimming pool. Really can't imagine why! Sometimes it will be in a nice home temperature, then it gets taken out into a totally alien environment.
Hopefully this laptop will be OK. It looks fine when I am looking at it online but we don't know what will happen when we start to use it. It's a lot of money to have to spend too.0 -

The difference in fare will be a lot if you are booking for a flight only 1 or 2 days out.
I wonder how long it takes for a UK GP to confirm no existing problems. Anyway, not your problem.
