I didn't know your OH had had ME, Spirit. He's one of the lucky ones to make a recovery. In the first 2 years is prime time to recover. I've been sick since March 1992. I did attempt a part time degree course (Applied Psychology) in the early days of being ill, but had to drop it at around the half way mark as just couldn't take the travelling in and out of town (in car, not public transport) plus the library was so disabled unfriendly it was a joke really. Mostly I just bought as many books as I could afford. Bit sad I didn't finish, but it really had become more than I could cope with. Just 2 or 3 lectures a week, and couldn't do it.
He was ill in 1990/1991. It was unflatteringly called yuppy flu. Our gp diagnosed it then said he did not believe it existed but rreferred OH to another GP at the practice who was a believer.
OH saw an AustralinDrin posh offices in Canary Wharf where he was subject to a lot of mumbo jumbo and expense. Key bits I remember are: daily magnesium given IV at Canary Wharff for a week every month followed by a week of eatining nothing but lamb and potatoes. Gluten free diet (in the days before GF was commercial) a war on Candida involving cutting out sugar and eating live yoghurt.
Th GP suggested it was triggered by the shingles OH had had immediately befor it struck. He went from 13 stones to 10.5 (he is 6' 2" tall. He had very achy joints and could not come downstairs for weeks on end, he could not cut food nor cuddle the 2-3 year old miss spirit. He had a small business (employed 70 people) and turned over £3m, it suffered hugely.
He recovered but it took about 5 years to ge back to normal, with a legacy of major aches and fatigue if he was at all unwell for about 10 years.0 -

In general they have smarter churches ( wry grin, nothing more said) and make a bit more of an effort. Shamefully reflecting on me I suppose if I try and put it into words my best attempt middling middle, looking, evaluation. But that perhaps suggests meaner than I think it is. Spirits word club might be closer. Words like legion, or society, or union.
. Even out side uk, or, even more so.
If the C of E churches you and Spirit have visited have been very middling middle, that's not because all C of E churches are like that, although of course lots are - mostly the ones in places where the population are middling middle sort of people. They vary loads. My dad goes to two: a high anglo-catholic one that's all bells and incense and processing about in robes, and a black majority one where they aren't so formal. Mine is big and has lots of different kinds of clothing on different people all at once. My friend next door goes to one in a poorer area of town where it's lots of single mothers in jeans with small (and frequently grubby) kids wandering about during the service. C of E churches are everywhere, and they mostly just reflect the kind of people that live in the area.
Hoping for the best for the docs to sort things out for you, lir.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Re the dress-code for church, as a non-churchgoer (except for weddings, so I tend not to wear jeans
), the closest I have is going to the theatre.
The last time I went to the theatre (when I last lived in Shakespeareland) I went in a hoodie and jeans. I felt a bit guilty amongst some very dressed up people. Still it's a step up from the time I went to the cinema in pretty much my pyjamas :eek:0 -

Hi Spirit.
I've tried a few recipes, but this ones the best I've found.
