Standard policy is to allow one adult to stay with you if you aren't fit to fly. In your case that would mean letting the little ones fly as unaccompanied minors (if your airline allows this). Obviously that is fraught with problems to.

OH was ill once and potentially unable to fly home, airline said DS2 could fly home alone - he was 14 at the time. Problem was that DS2 could only fly home if drugged up with valium at that age (prescription valium due to his fear of flying). Insurance said they weren't sure if they would cover him to stay with us or not. Luckily 24 hours more of antibiotics had OH in a stage where he felt he could fly.

I would make a decision based on whether you feel well enough to fly, goes above and beyond to worry about the other passengers, plenty people fly when not at full strength and potentially infectious.

Michaels littlies are little though. Ok, not as little as I remember them :D but still....and haven't they been unwell.

This travel insurance thing is a faff innit?

Whether one's left alone abroad, or not, think to yourself: if you'd travelled alone, you'd be alone, so it'd be tough, but not entirely unique. I'm sure lots of lone travellers find themselves alone in furren places every day. Time to wear those big boy pants if required.

While this is true michaels also has responsibilities here, having not travelled alone but as a co parent. I think he probably more than worrying about himself is worrying about his wife having to travel with three kids.

E.g. Either fir or I would cope alone, if we had critters with us we'd feel less 'able' I think, all that worry about pet passports and if the chip has moved.

Worrying about four passports not one, four people's luggage not one, while worrying your partner is unwell and vulnerable must be an unpleasant way to travel.

Lir is quite right, I would be fine (prefer?) to fly on my own but don't think it is fair for DW to fly with 3 kids and baggage, one of whom is not great health wise either. Issue seems to be resolved as doc has given very firm opinion that I am not fit to fly and said he will also certify DS the same as he is also on antibiotic so now we need to get him to send forms to insurance co in the morning and see what they do next.
    I think....

There's also the issue of you and DS being infectious. It hardly seems fair to infect others, as this is a fair bit more than just a sniffle.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • Thing is, my eldest doesn't have a lot to look forward to. Constant trips back and forth to the hospital with Daisy, her home turned into a mini-hospital!!

Can't really begrudge her the chance to get all dressed up in a pretty dress and take a ride in Limo can I ?? 😊

Maths GCSE resit results today...and youngest got his C! So chuffed for him and with him as on the day of the second paper, he was barely able to stand upright due to illness and was completely overstressed and anxious. He thought he had completely blown it although he had a feeling he had done well on the first paper.

    Brilliant news
I'm lost in Asda, don't know my way around, don't know what they've got.... so I need to learn all that stuff.

And they'll change it all round just as soon as you get used to it ;)
    I am shopping fail.

What a nightmare for you! Best laid plans and all that.

I'm hoping that by the time I've caught up with the rest of the thread, you'll have been successful.
  • Oh don't get me wrong, I think it's nuts too!! But it's just what school leavers do now!

I suppose the only advice I'm after is what to look out for when making a booking.

I've now learned that there Seems there are 2 types of limo hire websites.
    1. Brokers, who will look for the best deal for you, obviously taking a cut.
    2. Direct with the company, who own their own cars and have their iwn drivers.
They also all have to have fully up to date legal certificates.

I think it's best to avoid the brokers!

Made a few calls, think I've sorted something now. Just going to view them tomorrow before we book :-)

    Cheers guys x

Has anyone else got the dodgy weather tonight?

I've had to put the London bar on the front door as it sounded like it was going to blow of its hinges.

All resolved with a couple of slightly fraught phone calls. Flight is now delayed natch.

You don't get that sort of service from the chain shops, do you?! :D

Got to Abu Dhabi2.5 hours late. On the plus sied it means they're boarding already.

You'll be on the other end of all that travelling by the time you read this, but I hope the jetlag is OK for all of you and that the final stages of the journey home are uneventful (you deserve that at least!!).
