Fil is on his way to Paris for an annual thing he does there. I'm wondering if smil will have dropped out from coming with him on this basis. She didn't used to travel much at all but now goes with him more.

You'll need more than that if you've got to Transit through Abu Dhabi!

Cheers mystic_trev. I have diazepam for flying which means I could be transiting via your garden shed for all the difference it makes . I suspect that a bacon sandwich and a pint will be out of the question as I wait.

Ethiad cattle class is truly awful. It's like one of those planes you take to Spain. Still we're premium economy from AD to Sydney which will be better. Early morning arrival too so as long as I get a decent kip on the plane I should be one step ahead of getting rid of the jet lag.

Thanks for keeping us posted. Hoping for the best for the rest of your journey. You seem to be doing a fab job of managing to get your family to where they need to be despite the inevitable disruption caused by the... what did you call them? ... $&@?ing idiots.

That's great news! One less thing to worry about (and a lighter timetable now so he can concentrate on other work).

$&@?ing idiots, that's right. Now they've just done a partial evacuation of the airport. I put my hand out to gesture and some 18 y/o with an assault rifle looked terrified for a moment.

This is no bloody fun.

So now stuck really as to which one to go out of my way to acquire. At a guess, the Argos one might be in stock and I could, theoretically, stand a chance of collecting one of those in the next half an hour..... but my fingers are cold from being outside now.

If you are going to order online, you can widen the stores to include the likes of amazon.

Indeed. And the scariest part of it is that although they are, as you say, $&@?ing idiots in terms of their choice to do this vile thing, they seem to be extremely competent in the way they have got in, got out, and got away. This is so different from the shootings we've seen before where some isolated psycho shuts himself in somewhere with a gun and some hostages but no real plan of what to do next, and ends up getting shot by police by the end of it. Those incidents are awful, but this is a very nasty development indeed.

Not fun at all.

I try to keep an eye on the French newspapers and this has been a fear for a while now: battle hardened, trained killers coming back to France and doing this. Who knows what the next part of the plan is?

So they're heading north. Brussels to attack a school EU workers send their kids to or maybe have a go at that newspaper in Denmark. Nobody knows or at least they ain't telling.

You could just get on a plane once upon a time. Yes you'd occasionally end up in Tehran or Karachi but the odds were reasonably low.
