Good neighbours make all the difference in the world. Maybe especially for us single people, but also for all you couples. I have wonderful neighbours too, and I've really enjoyed hearing how great other NP's neighbours are - especially Nikkster, Spirit and PN. :)

I'm really lucky with mine. One has a set of keys, another always takes my bins in for me when she takes hers in (after the bin lorry has been), we have had a couple of street parties in the summer, it's great. :D

Even though this post ended up with Nikki getting her plumbing seen to it did not end in the direction I imagined from the first sentence....

Ha ha, should have spotted that!

To be honest, I think I'd have chosen for someone to fix the lavatory anyway :rotfl:

Nice peeps, I need your help. My dad has to travel quite a way for his radiotherapy, which is over 20 consecutive days. I wanted to buy him something that will cover his petrol charges and put his mind at rest over the cost of all that travel out of his pension (as he won't be able to work). Any ideas whether I can pre-purchase a petrol card or pre-loaded card of some description and put some money on it so that he doesn't worry?

    Prepaid visa/mastercards are readily available.

Pre-paid fuels cards appear to lack sufficient coverage to be suitable for the purpose.

Just need to bear in mind that often prepaid cards can't be used to pay at the pump. I was given one due to some kind of promotion when I got my mortgage - I think it might be because the digits on the card aren't raised (even though it has a magnetic strip and a chip in it).

I guess just transferring some money into his account isn't an option?

Thanks Nikks. I'm struggling. Money is an option but it's sort of clinical in a situation that's already clinical enough. Plus he's proud. I just want to make sure my dad is ok and can get to his appointments without worrying about the cost of getting there. He has a car with a reasonably big engine, so its not very cheap to run.

Maybe just fill the tank a couple of times then?

Just in case my badly worded post wasn't clear - my card can be used to pay at the kiosk apparently, just not at the pump (typed that as pimp the first time round ).

Understand what you're saying - I'd be the same. I can't think of an alternative to some kind of pre-paid card really.

Just thought - do they have loading fees?

I have a strange aversion to those pay at the pump things, I just don't like them and always pay "at the human". I've no idea why - this seems to be limited to petrol - in all other circumstances I will only pay at the human if there isn't a self-service option (except in WH Smiths as their self service tills just don't seem to work, ever).

For businesses fuel cards exist. Not sure how easy it is as a consumer.

Or a general pre-paid mastercard. I'm sure michaels knows where you can get cashback on this.
