Whilst I don't disagree in this particular case (although the facts aren't that clear as the advice given is not considered - he seems to have received a cash incentive of £17.5k to do this...), fraudsters are increasingly targeting people with final salary schemes - they are a good source of financially unsophisticated people with significant amounts for the fraudsters to get at. They are encouraged to transfer into a SIPP or SSAS and then from there to invest into the fraudster's scheme. You need an IFA to sign off the transfer - the IFA is prepared to do this as they are only liable for the transfer to the SIPP/SSAS and not for what investments are then chosen - from that point it turns into a commonal garden boiler room scam.

Quite often, the bona fide pension schemes have got wise to what is going on, and they have refused to transfer the money. The trouble is that that then puts them in breach of the law, which requires them to give a transfer if the member demands it. What is more, they then have to to report themselves to the pension regulator for the breach. It is all a terrible mess from a regulatory point of view.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Have you seen the other Ottolenghis - Jerusalem and Persiana? They're probably the most popular Mid East cook books at the moment.

Libraries have been much in the news today. Looking at some of the other local authorities and libraries that have been featured, I've been counting my lucky stars to work in a fantastic facility and in an authority that has a clear strategy.

I haven't looked at those books yet, though did watch the TV series of Jerusalem and thought the food looked very interesting :)

Two of our local libraries are now "run by the community" and are apparently doing very well and are able to offer longer opening hours than the council had become able to.

Thanks to you too PN, I'd forgotten about the library database :)
I think that where we live we can now borrow from a lot of London libraries. It's quite expensive here to reserve a book or get one sent from another library, but still cheaper than buying a new copy.

Well....they didn't want the holes in the hedge plugged up so that he could get through....they have to live with the consequences! They benefit from the ratting, but have to deal with the result too. ;)

I'm sorry it's been wet. Hugs from dry London. It's been a beautiful day. Only 3 more days until the days start getting longer again! :j:j:j:j

It is pricey, but it's nice to know where copies exist as you might pass those libraries occasionally or often.

Somebody's cooked me a pie for tea, so I'll be popping out in a bit. drove to the town 8 miles away to look for small giftettes, but it was a miserable shopping experience as I didn't know what I wanted - and didn't manage to find anything either.

Bought a great snowman jar thing in theworks. It's a plastic sweet jar with arms/head/hat/scarf and you fill it with sweeties. So I got one for my sibling and one for me. Mine's now filled with sweeties and looking all Xmassy by the tree.

I got two as they were £2, but it was a BOGOF (so £1 each). Looks like they're usually £4, so a double bargainous find. http://www.theworks.co.uk/p/christmas-decorations/snowman-candy-jar/5052089154094
