Whilst I don't disagree in this particular case (although the facts aren't that clear as the advice given is not considered - he seems to have received a cash incentive of £17.5k to do this...), fraudsters are increasingly targeting people with final salary schemes - they are a good source of financially unsophisticated people with significant amounts for the fraudsters to get at. They are encouraged to transfer into a SIPP or SSAS and then from there to invest into the fraudster's scheme. You need an IFA to sign off the transfer - the IFA is prepared to do this as they are only liable for the transfer to the SIPP/SSAS and not for what investments are then chosen - from that point it turns into a commonal garden boiler room scam.

The easiest way to do this is then surely to require an IFA to advise in full the risks associated with such investments and to make sure it's above board.

I'd happily pay the £250 for an hour of an IFA's time to make sure I was getting correct advice.....

    Amazing extensions.

I know you said no comment, but assume that is obscure enough.

Somebody's cooked me a pie for tea, so I'll be popping out in a bit. drove to the town 8 miles away to look for small giftettes, but it was a miserable shopping experience as I didn't know what I wanted - and didn't manage to find anything either.

Someone's done something for me tonight too :) (well, and last night!)

Texted my lovely neighbours to ask if I could pop round some time this week. I had 2 ulterior motives:
1 - double check the names (and spellings) of the other neighbours I've met, ready for card-writing
2 - see if Mr Neighbour would re-visit my toilet's float valve as it was leaking again (he replaced a washer in it last year)

We've been trying to get together for dinner, so they then invited me round for dinner. Was a really nice evening :)

Mr Neighbour came round this evening. I'd bought some toilet bits to try and help. I bought the wrong bits. Another trip to Wickes later and my toilet has a shiny new filling bit :D

And I am home alone tonight so I've got the radio on LOUD for the first Friday night in months :)

Oh, and I'm not now planning on being in the office until the New Year.
And I'm having a beer

Edit: I'm sooooo lucky to have wound up with my neighbours. So very lucky.

Quite often, the bona fide pension schemes have got wise to what is going on, and they have refused to transfer the money. The trouble is that that then puts them in breach of the law, which requires them to give a transfer if the member demands it. What is more, they then have to to report themselves to the pension regulator for the breach. It is all a terrible mess from a regulatory point of view.

Our advisors have said as much to us. We've not had a case in our scheme, but there has in a similar scheme. You can talk until you are blue in your face saying that its a scam and pointing to the regulator's website, but the supposed IFA says that you are the ones trying to scam them by getting them to stay in the scheme:mad:.

Even though this post ended up with Nikki getting her plumbing seen to it did not end in the direction I imagined from the first sentence....

Just been on a successful hukd raid as the tablet I wanted was on offer for £80 down from 160 in Staples so the one I got from Argos is going back unopened.

Edit: Definitely feeling slightly fluey as is DD2 - so looking forward to the flights :(
    I think....

    Welcome, Gen :j

I'm now on leave for 2 weeks (yesterday was actually my last day, hurrah!). Got a rotten cough and very behind with cards / presents etc, and have got absolutely masses of studying to do but I am so ready for this break.

Need to plan meals with Mum over the phone, for when they are here over Christmas. She's had the lurgy and scary blood potassium results after a change of medication, so we should probably just put a sign on the door once they're here which says Infectious (or whatever it was in Plague times) :o

Still, it's going to be a good weekend of TV. Finals of Strictly and the Apprentice :)

Glad you got your plumbing sorted out Nikkster, and  for good neighbours.

Good neighbours make all the difference in the world. Maybe especially for us single people, but also for all you couples. I have wonderful neighbours too, and I've really enjoyed hearing how great other NP's neighbours are - especially Nikkster, Spirit and PN. :)
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

Not that I'm a hypochondriac, but that could be the start of something serious. Ebola, maybe? Probably easy to mistake the symptoms of that and meningitis. ;)

    Have a good holiday. :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
