Got a text this morning, house guest mum and sister left hospital at 6am and are on watching brief, no mention of antibiotics for us yet. Excitement of having sleepover on school night means 3 very tired kids this am (and 2 tired parents). Also have various other excitements going on so can't wait for the weekend when all should be sorted one way or the other.
Great to see the inspector and fingers crossed for family Xmas at home.I think....0 -
Good to see you Inspector. I also follow via Facebook, how exciting Daisy got to meet Pixie.
Thinking of you all xxxWe made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Thanks for dropping by IM.
Here's hoping Daisy's home for a truly Happy Family Christmas.0 -

Chicken or lamb, ras al hanout grilled, salad in pita with salad and a pickled lemon. Tagines, cous cous, salads.
( RAS keeps being capitalised because there is an Mse user called RAS)
Every RAS al hanout is slightly different, depending who mixes it. The last batch I have is a gift brought back from morroco and its much spicier and less earthy than others I've had.
Thanks so much for some suggestions, because when i trawled through Plenty to see which recipe I'd been thinking of, it wasn't ras el hanout I'd been thinking of at all, but sumac (which I know you also like a lot!). I shall go to the library, probably after Christmas, to see if they have a middle Eastern cookbook
Do you mix the ras el hanout with a little oil before putting it on the chicken/lamb to grill it, or just spread it on as it is?0 -

Depends. If I have no time I just rub on. If I have time to marinade I usually marinade in yoghurt and RAS al hanout. I don't often feel the need to add extra oil to stuff that's moist for the purposes of 'sticking stuff on' and yoghurt is tenderising.
Edit: also...just because a recipe says one spice.....you can always swap with something flavour appropriate for a different interpretation.
Sumac is indeed one of my favourite tastes in the world0 -
Yes it is and they're amazing. I bought my first one when a friend I was at uni with asked if I'd cook a Thai meal for her and our mates for her 21st. The recipes were great and not watered down for Western tastes particularly.
Fantastic. Happy to share ideas/thoughts/techniques on here or via PM.Thanks so much. I may need to adapt some recipes, as there are usually only the two of us (though I do tend to cook for four and freeze half, but our freezer's not as big as I'd like) and also Mr ivyleaf is diabetic and very bad at keeping to a healthy diet
I was telling a friend who also has a OH with diabetes and she said both men sounded exactly the same - "One concession to diabetes at one meal a day is quite sufficient!"
lir the marinade sounds a brilliant idea thank you!0 -
Best wishes to Daisy, IM - hope she gets out so you can all spend Xmas at home together.
lir, someone else posted this rather grainy pic of my Ruby on another forum for me. She' wants to give Kiwi a run for his money in the cute stakes
That's a hippo toy that she's gazing at. Sorry for the poor quality!0 -

I cannot see it, but I just know she is cute anyway. The blighter is called Ruby for goodness sakes, that's cute in itself! I'd just love to meet your pack. Kiwi remember kills things for fun.....less cute.0 -
I hadn't "met" Daisy before. Very best wishes to her and to all your family IM, and I do hope Daisy gets home for Christmas.
Maggie Sorry to hear about your poor DH! i hope the antibiotics work quickly. I know you're so looking forward to your Christmas plans. Thinking of you x
michaels Hope all turns out well for your friend's little girl.0 -
Fir and I are meal planning for the next week or so. Chestnuts and mushrooms seem to be featuring rather prominently. Both in tartlets for canap!s) and as a proper supper.0
