You will be able to search their database of books online from home. See [a] what that library's got what other libraries have got. And if there's a good one in a different library you can request it to be sent to your library, or pop in there if you're passing to see if it's on the shelves when you turn up.

Nice to hear from you again, Inspector. Sending thoughts and prayers for Daisy to have a wonderful Christmas at home. :)
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Worth a read, if you have the time. (It's only 8 pages long.) Poor Mr X has arranged for his £360k pension fund to be transferred from the NHS to a scheme with the fine name of Capita Oak Pension Scheme, run by the equally fine-sounding Imperial Trustee Services Limited. Unfortunately, the names seem to be the best part of the scheme.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Thanks, a very interesting read. I have to say I have very little sympathy with Mr X's plight. He knew very well what he was doing, and tried to get greedy by 'cashing in' his Final salary Pension - one of the best on offer! I somehow doubt he'll ever get any of the money back.

Whilst I don't disagree in this particular case (although the facts aren't that clear as the advice given is not considered - he seems to have received a cash incentive of £17.5k to do this...), fraudsters are increasingly targeting people with final salary schemes - they are a good source of financially unsophisticated people with significant amounts for the fraudsters to get at. They are encouraged to transfer into a SIPP or SSAS and then from there to invest into the fraudster's scheme. You need an IFA to sign off the transfer - the IFA is prepared to do this as they are only liable for the transfer to the SIPP/SSAS and not for what investments are then chosen - from that point it turns into a commonal garden boiler room scam.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We've got a bloody IFA meeting tomorrow. I'm at the point I'd just say 'whatever'. And last year DH gave them his salary as being a few thousand under what it actually is, and I said I didn't think it was right, so we spent an insane ten minutes trying to find out what he earned looking for a pay slip.

We still seem to have gone wrong with our accountant as we both got extra tax bills from HMRC on top of what we paid them :(. Harumph. As we do not take a fraction of the legal avoidance we could its a bit rich. Every year I say it might be the time to tighten up, let alone take a more actively defensive stance. ( e.g.....I never put in business mileage as I do my business miles when I'm on that route for my own stuff anyway, I'm well aware I should reverse that train of thought...)

Thanks so much for some suggestions, because when i trawled through Plenty to see which recipe I'd been thinking of, it wasn't ras el hanout I'd been thinking of at all, but sumac (which I know you also like a lot!). I shall go to the library, probably after Christmas, to see if they have a middle Eastern cookbook :)

Do you mix the ras el hanout with a little oil before putting it on the chicken/lamb to grill it, or just spread it on as it is?

Have you seen the other Ottolenghis - Jerusalem and Persiana? They're probably the most popular Mid East cook books at the moment.

Libraries have been much in the news today. Looking at some of the other local authorities and libraries that have been featured, I've been counting my lucky stars to work in a fantastic facility and in an authority that has a clear strategy.
