Do all NPs have a landline phone at home? I know that it's good for credit ratings , but I seem to have heard that many people aren't bothering nowadays and just keep charging a mobile.

reason I'm asking is I've got a Virgin bundle with a landline that gives free weekend landline calls. We can easily rattle up to £20 of extra phone charges per month from weekday calls/ calls to mobiles, which are all 8p per minutes (or more).

    I was wondering about
    a) getting a cheap PAYG phone for outgoing calls using the 3-2-1 tariff
    b) getting a phone and Virgin's £5 per month SIM (250 mins + 3000 texts)

We can't get rid of the landline, which we'll use for weekend, emergency and incoming calls.

Does anybody here do anything similar?

We only use the landline for free weekend calls including 08 numbers. DWs mobile contract has unlimited minutes for 7.50 a month so we use that for everything else then I have 300 mins a month on my mobile for when I am out, free for the year after cash back.

Did I mention that the landline and linked unlimited broadband are also free after 400 quid cash back?
    I think....

:):) Thanks so much. I may need to adapt some recipes, as there are usually only the two of us (though I do tend to cook for four and freeze half, but our freezer's not as big as I'd like) and also Mr ivyleaf is diabetic and very bad at keeping to a healthy diet ;) I was telling a friend who also has a OH with diabetes and she said both men sounded exactly the same - "One concession to diabetes at one meal a day is quite sufficient!"

lir the marinade sounds a brilliant idea thank you!

I once took the Eurostar with FiL who is diabetic and he got the hump because we ordered him the diabetic meal. He said to the stewardess, "I normally ignore my diabetes"

She replied, "So did my Grandad and so they had to chop his legs off"!

Happy to help with ideas for diabetic food. Try googling 'chocolate and kidney bean brownies'. Sound vile but are actually very good and low GI. If you can't find a good recipe then I can look it out when I get back to Aus.

I took up the MSE offer with EE for broadband and landline for £2.50 a month (after paying £132 up front for a years line rental) I get free calls at the weekend and use my mobile which is on Giffgaff with a £7.50 goodybag each month, that gives me enough minutes and data and 0800 numbers are free on giffgaff too. That was the best deal I could find when I moved into my new place, I will review the situation and see what's on offer next September!

Just remembered, I have a £100 Amazon voucher on the way with the EE deal too!

PN, I find using my Nokia windows phone so much easier, its bigger and flatter so my arthritic hands can cope with it much better than those tiny mobiles
