Fwiw that's one of the things non RP did in their house that I think was a waste of money for ceiling price. Beautiful yes...but will they money back on it over laminate? Doubt it, personally. Depends on home IMO and whether you are staying if the 'value' is worth it. For me the product always would be.

Fwiw, we put bamboo in the bathroom. Cheaper than wood, better for a bathroom, fair enough colour match for our existing wood, more solid than laminate and supposedly an Eco option.

Do NP watch the Queen's speech on Christmas day?

We usually do not, it's not a stance, we are usually still eating.

As we are heathens, we usually have Christmas dinner with the tv on. My dad is OBSESSED with not missing the Christmas Top of the Pops. Or anything else. Even if we end up missing it by talking over it. A tv is set up in the dining room especially for the meal.

Maybe you could record it and watch it later? It's not like it's actually on live, and I expect your household doesn't have such a packed Christmas tv viewing schedule as mine so would be able to find time later in the day.

If the TV is on and we were there in the room then we might watch it. Not something I'd make a special effort to watch though.

I'm not an ardent monarchist, but I think they do a reasonable job and if it ain't broke... If I was designing a system from scratch there's no way it would be a monarchy though.

Even though we don't have a republic the Queen is still head of state by consent of the people of this country. As soon they become unpopular with enough people there will be a referendum and they will be booted out. So I think it kind of works as a compromise.

Ditto. I'd be happy with a bicycling monarch like the Scandilux countries seem to have, or an anonymous president like Switzerland. There's not many countries seem to want America's type of presidential system.

You also have the prospect of some very good years ahead.

I don't watch the Queen's Speech and am not an ardent royalist. Having said that, I think that overall she's done a good job and she's shown incredible devotion to duty, considering her and Prince Philip's age. I'm more keen on her than I am Prince Charles, so will see what my opinion of the monarchy is then. She's been on the throne for all of the lives of most of us. It will be strange when things change. I quite like the younger generation though, and like the fact that Harry went to Afghanistan.

Isn't the point of a monarchy, in part, that support is required for the institution itself. You don't get to pick and choose which ones you do and don't like. If you like Brenda then you have to accept Charlie too.

Royals don't really bother me these days. They're cheap and not corrupt so that'll do. Imagine President Kinnock or President Foot or President Hague. Hell's bells.
