It will certainly puzzle the police if I hand out pony feed!

Must resist urge to make 'feed the pony' joke.

Does it have roots? Can you plant it? Dad bought one with roots in our first year at one house and planted it in the garden. It grew huge, but we left 7 years later.

Apparently so. Assuming it survives Christmas, I'll see about putting it into a bigger pot and taking it outside. Then it will have been even more MSE :)

Do NP watch the Queen's speech on Christmas day?

We usually do not, it's not a stance, we are usually still eating.
As a child my parents always had it on and insisted that we children stood for the National Anthem.

Our chinese guests have been in the UK for some years but she is an intensive care nurse and has always worked christmas shifts to allow colleagues who celebrate to have time off. this year she moved to a private hospital who plan to be shut on christmas day.
I am considering that we should watch it for them.

Yes, it's a family tradition. If we're still eating at the time the TV has to come on for it then off again.

No, but I might watch it this year.
If your guests are from communist China it might be quite an experience for them to see a monarch on the telly, seeing as how they're globally a bit of an endangered species.
