    Adorable, michaels.

It sounds like a few younger siblings in the audience were enjoying the performance!

    .... but not Queenie.

I'm not a Royalist, but on the basis you have to have a bum of some sort on a chair of some sort, then I'd vote for Queenie based purely on the fact she really seems to take care to keep her nose super-clean.

    Could be either:
    a) doesn't need to - has enough money/ gets enough from the rest of us
    b) is very good at not getting found out

    :)

I think that QEII has served her country well (and continues to do so). She seems to glide above the political nonsense and just get on with things.

    I got yelled at today

Sorry to hear that Dooz. Hope the feeling-control works well.

On Friday, a friend at work stopped me from basically asking for an argument. That kind of 'pause, think about what you do next' is very valuable.

Isn't the point of a monarchy, in part, that support is required for the institution itself. You don't get to pick and choose which ones you do and don't like. If you like Brenda then you have to accept Charlie too.

Royals don't really bother me these days. They're cheap and not corrupt so that'll do. Imagine President Kinnock or President Foot or President Hague. Hell's bells.

Monarchs nowadays aren't usually corrupt disasters. When I think of the middle east it keeps coming back to me that the most stable and reasonable country for a long time has been the UK's long-time friend Jordan, ruled by a hereditary monarch rather than a strongman or warlord, surrounded by republics who all seem to be living in interesting times.

The fact they're never in the news is a pretty good sign nowadays

I don't think I've ever seen the queen's speech - Christmas Day is about the only time that the TV doesn't get switched on.

We pull ourselves away from TV/computer for Christmas too.

It's on for the majority of the year, so I think one day isn't too much to ask :)

DS2 is home from uni. :) He brought with him a "Happy Hanukah" card for us all from the GF's parents. Must have been difficult for them to find in their town so find that quite thoughtful. He also has presents from them...which means I now need to find a suitable Xmas present for the GF.

Apparently a present for us will also be arriving. Given that we have never met the parents, does this move from the thoughtful category to the "trying too hard?"

Clearly they think their daughter is on to a good thing!

For me, this works. Increasingly everybody's being proven to have their hands deep in the big pot .... lawbreakers, cheats, thieves, corrupt back-hander takers .... but not Queenie.

I'm not a Royalist, but on the basis you have to have a bum of some sort on a chair of some sort, then I'd vote for Queenie based purely on the fact she really seems to take care to keep her nose super-clean.

I suppose it is easier not to be corrupt when you were born with everything that money can buy and more. That said, I see no reason to get rid of the royals - it ain't broken so don't fix it.

Or that you made a good impression on the daughter after your great effort and made her feel comfortable and warm and they are relieved and happy about this? And would like to meet?
