OH once worked for one of the big accountancy firms. He entered into discussions a company that his firm audited (all above board, I think he was serving out a long notice period at the time). At interview it seemed the job was his, but we didn't get anything in writing and they kept saying they were going through formalities. Nothing happened. A few months later they were found to be insolvent. Lucky escape!

Lir, if you are up to it and can be bothered...

I reported to Ebay that I had not received payment.

Now I have received this from the buyer:

sto facendo il pagamento del phone e non va ditemi voi cosa fare poi non dite che non voglio fare il pagamento

GT: I'm making the payment of the phone and does not tell me what to do then do not say that I will not make the payment

I assume he is saying that I shouldn't say he won't make payment when he will.

    Wish he would just pay!!

    !

Very rude/stroppy tone is my reading of this.

"I'm making the payment for for the phone and its not working you tell me what to do but then don't say that idon't want to make the payment". ( literal enough translation but my bolding )

Emphasis for the way they have phrased it and use of word voi. Its a bit like ' I beg your pardon!' When you are certainly not begging anything ....if they meant to give you the Voi in a respect ful or courteous way then the phrasing around it would be courteous.( edit that's wrong, ignore all that)

Tomorrow is fir's office party. Today was the 'corridor lunch' when everyone on the corridor went for lunch at a restaurant, Still to come is dept celebration.....lunch? Drinks? 'Admin group drinks' ( secretary and those who use her' and then 'Christmas lunch'. This all seems a lot of celebration to me.

Any excuse for a booze up. May as well say, it's December let's party!
Given that his tone is stroppy I am not going to reply.

    Thanks lir

Consider its only my interpretation, and the written word. I've had no formal Italian tuition AT ALL.*

I can double check with fir if you'd rather not base that decision on the word of someone you've never met on the Internet who doesn't profess to be a fluent speaker. ( if you are less nervous of contact with we weirdos these days I'd be happy to give you a number for him and you can call him concealing yours...and double check with a native speaker.....)

In fact, I'm sending him this one so you can do that anyway if you like. He saw yesterday's anyway.

    * that's not true! I did go to one class of Italian over there. It was fun, but they didn't know how to classify me. I could make filthy jokes that made the teacher laugh, could understand everything, but struggled with grammar a bit. Teacher suggested I saved my money and get on with life or employ a private tutor to improve my grammar and confidence. Obviously I have same problems grabbing for right words in any language.

Mine too. Though tomorrow isn't for Christmas, definitely not (budget thing I think), its an end of year team building event or something like that. There is a 'Christmas' thing in our diaries in a couple of weeks, though no one seems to know what it involves.

I trust you far more than I trust someone who buys a phone locked to a UK network when they live abroad....and them makes out it is my fault they are not paying and I shouldn't tell Ebay!

I'm not replying to him, he can either pay or not pay.
