First time, DD2 has done it twice :(

Ahem...shouldn't you be asleep, I would be but I need a little slowing down time.

Sympathy to both your DDs, and you and your DW too. I agree with others that the vomiting and head injury made taking her to get checked over the wise thing to do. Hope she's feeling OK now.

Yes I should have been asleep. Thank you for remembering what I said a while ago about wanting the NP to tick me off if I was on here after midnight.

The thing is, Friday is my half day off - I only work in the afternoons. Usually I have to get up at the normal time to deliver DD to school, but today she has inset, so I have had what feels like an illicit and therefore all the more delicious lie-in. :D

In view of that, I allowed myself to stay up late last night, which probably wasn't the wisest thing I could have done, but not as stupid as staying up too late on a normal school night. :o

We clean ours when we both come to the conclusion of 'hmm yes it does look a bit grubby now, time for a clean'

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

A lot of hoods are this design and have panels that unclip and can go in the dishwasher. Usually there is a simple latch mechanism. Video here.

Oooh I didn't know you could do that. Mine has panels like that. Will try dishwashing them. Does it work with normal dishwashing stuff instead of the special degreasing product mentioned in the video?

People always install cooker hoods at head height (for me), and those square corners do a lot of damage. My main criterion for choosing one now is that it has to have rounded corners.

Mine is round. It looks rather like this, except that that shiny trim strip round the edge is firmly attached on one side, and held on with a bulldog clip on the other side. :o

Well, just check if there's any vent outlet on your outside wall. :)
We have one of those non-venting ones, it just catches the gunk and that's it. It's !!!!. You can get cheapo filters on ebay though.
I'd love a vented one, but our hob isn't near any outside wall.

Mine vents to outside. As far as I can see it doesn't have any filters, which is good because there's nothing for me to keep replacing.

My advice to PN is to turn it on full before going outside to see if it's venting out there - you'll be able to hear it if it is.

I've thought that with mine - as I whizz under it I've thought "I bet loads of people have whacked their head open on that corner piece". Seems dangerous to me and something I never have to worry about, but even I've realised it's dangerous.

Lean over to peer in a pan... whack. Rubbish 'design'. Somebody's not doing their job properly when they spec/buy/fit these things.....

Is it the same with all browsers? If so have you looked at your hosts file? If not could it be an add in?
    I think....

Not sure I can turn it on full and leave the house .... being on would petrify me (loud noises) .... and I think, in all honesty, this whole cooker hood thing will just petrify me forever..... it's tough being a loon.

Next time you have a visitor (maybe one of us??) you can stand inside watching the hood to make sure it doesn't catch fire, and the other person can go outside to look for it. Or the other way round.

Or you could leave it switched off, work out which bit of wall it's attached to, and just go outside to see if there's a vent in the right place. Mine is square with flaps, a bit like this.

I've never whacked my head on the one in this house. I imagine it depends on how tall the person is, and how tall a person the installer had in mind.

Do any of the NP clean their ovens after every use? It has never occurred to me do that. Am I a slob, or are the people who comply with the recommendation to clean after every use being OCD about it??

No, not even my Mum does and her house is spotless.

I clean mine (or rather Mrs Generali does as it's her job) when it's noticeable that it smells of smoke when we turn it on. I pick any bits of fallen food out of the bottom and mop up oil spills etc.
