    Well done pn.

    Proud of you.

    You HAVE started!

Your GP might be able to direct you somewhere but NHs coverage might not be very good. GP would certainly be a good place to start though, and give you some direction as to what might be available locally.

What lir said. Well done PN. :T

My top tip is not to feel that the first "helping professional" that you try will be the only fish in the sea. If you get on well and it's helping you, then stick with it. If, after several sessions, you are feeling misunderstood and not making progress, then it doesn't mean that professional help doesn't work - just that you haven't found the right person yet and need to try somebody different.

Last year I saw a counsellor for my burnout issues. She was nice and I was comfortable talking to her, but she never really "got" what kind of help it was that I needed. I finished with her at the end of the summer term.

I ought to have got cracking with finding a different person as soon as the summer holidays were over. I am finally doing it now. :o Your post is the kick I need to make me ring the number of the person I have decided I'd like to try. Thank you.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

Did you pick a candidate for DD, Lydia?

Good luck with your next try too :)

    Thanks Nikkster. :)

DD picked from the three we went to meet. She's now had 2 sessions with her. I don't expect it to be a quick fix.

Since my last post I've called the person I'm thinking of for me. I have picked one with a qualification in life coaching as well as counselling, because I'm not sure which of the two I need. I'll be meeting her on Friday to see how we get on.

Yes, how do you find a good GP?

I know that one of the issues is people trying to find the best GP. You don't need best, just good.

GP league tables were published for the first time this week.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Oh fc123, ouch ouch ouch! Your poor thumb :( Wishing you a speedy recovery and hoping it won't cause problems next week. Great that Mr fc123 will be able to change the dressing for you at any rate :) I'm still wincing for you though.

PN you should be able to get referred to some CBT type therapy but possibly only for a limited number of sessions. Perhaps you can also self help with the right books?

It might also be that getting official diagnosis for speshulness opens other access to things? Possibly through support groups or people who are experienced or interested in fears as they manifest in people who are not nuerotypical.

This might also help reduce the concern that people will brush it away or not take it seriously.

Or it might mean more sessions of something are available to you. Or it might mean nothing at all, but all avenues that might help are worth thinking about. We want you to be content and secure.

I just want to bake a pie and cook it until it's brown and eat it ..... and enjoy that and not fear it.

    Sounds pretty reasonable. :)

Everything else is just how best to get you there....and anywhere else you want to be....fiddling with heating, fussing with lightbulbs.....whatever. :). You are a good, kind, intelligent person with capability. Its just how best to find the key here.
