It really is pitch dark out at nights now after midnight isn't it. If you were walking home you'd not be able to see where you're walking!

I wish it were round here, too many street lights, can't see the stars. With a bit of luck Liverpool will turn the lights out to save money.

The good news is they ain't going to shut down any libraries after all. It was prob a smoke and mirrors thing to hide the things they are really going to shut down so we were all distracted and didn't notice.

I have a very low level of trust in the majority of our local councillors. :rotfl:

hjd huge congrats to your daughter - fabbo result, and I'm sure she worked really hard for it.

Generali, as ever, sending The Vibes. I still sit in the front porch and think of you while looking at the garden. Hugs if that's OK.

And Spirit too. Especially when we have a great sunset sky. Hugs to you too, if that's OK. You really seem to be coming on in leaps and bounds. :j

Looks like we might make it to London over Xmas, is there a date and place for meet yet? Would be fun to add more faces to names. Had so much fun meeting my book friend again in October when she gave the talk in Persephone Books shop. I love meeting internet friends in RL.

Huge congratulations to HJD the younger....

Taken my very strong pain killers tonight, can barely move and in a lot of pain, no idea why, haven't really overdone it, maybe I am sickening for something.

Josh got the result from one of the units he resubmitted on Friday, this was one where I took one look and nagged him horribly (my new nickname is The Dictator, or the worst nightmare teacher ever as I wouldn't let him hand it in again until it was a lot better, which took a fair few rewrites), he has gone from an ungraded to a merit.

Great news about the upgrade! Sometimes you do need to nag :p

    Hope you feel better soon.

They have here, and I have to remember that the Focus doesn't have a working reversing light (yet to diagnose why)

Me too, and I was one until May. I think it's natural.

I can recommend All the Trouble in the World. A belter of a read.

I read and enjoyed that too.

There's a big row going on in Liverpool over the Mayor bought the Cunard Building to use as council offices and is putting in top range hot water tap things (tapgate!) though I thought they couldn't afford to do the place up for some reason? Not been following this stuff as well as I should. While moaning about the Mayor please can I beg for you all to sign the petition to not get rid of the Kazimier Club to build yet more posh flats  The easy way round this would be to ensure the new build flats had proper sound insulation to keep out the sounds of the clubs surely? <rolls eyes smilie> But that would cost more for the developers. But reason they want to go there anyway is cos it's trendy due to the clubs. Grrrr. Our Mayor is a big fat pile of s888e and we didn't even get the chance to vote if we wanted one. Grrrr. Plus he wants to sell off lots of our green spaces to developers to build posh houses. We hate him here.

I was just about to say about how installing hot water taps yet closing libraries would not be popular when I read your second post. Good news!

In Herts we have most street lights off at 12 and not back on until 5am. I was against it at first. There's also an ongoing programme to change the lights to more cost effective ones. They do look very different. The light they give off is white rather than yellow.

Waste depots in Herts have also had their hours changed, closing during the week for two days. There's always one open somewhere during daytime hours, but it will be interesting to see if this leads to a rise in flytipping.

I lob more in the black bins. Can't be bothered driving to the tip to find it closed and the only one worth going to, in green terms, is the one nearest me. So whereas before I would have driven the mile to the tip if I had sufficient recycling, now I don't bother. We are blessed with 2 black bins and with only 2 of us home in term time we never fill 1.

Something that's always hot would be liable to scale up in hard water areas?

    Congrats to Miss HJD.

If you are the sort of person likely to install a hot tap, you are probably the sort of person likely to install a water softener and reverse osmosis thingummy on your drinking taps.

We have them here also. But no switching off at night

Personally, I love them, they produce a nice natural light instead of that all consuming light-polluting orange glow. I can actually see a couple of stars from the back garden now. :)
