If you work 20 hours in a day you work more or less non stop, eat at home office desk, sleep 4 hours, wake up and do it all over again.

Since I last posted I've completed 3 spreadsheets and a powerpoint presentation. I'll be in bed by 3 and up at 7 and do the same again tomorrow. I do take toilet breaks and nuke some food in there somewhere.

It's not productive over the long haul, but needs must when there's a deadline on.
fir's office , and indeed all his sector, have food deliveries in the evening. A choice of restaurants to order from deliverered to the office then reception ( manned twenty four seven, and there are night and weekend and early morning secretaries) bring it up if required...though many, like DH, recognise that going to get it offers some break. Sometimes DH will talk me through logging on to the food system and I'll order him supper. Other times he goes with out :mad:or eats raw. '

No, I think we probably are nuts....

It's only in recent years that I realised such patterns are a bit abnormal. It's all I've ever known, and I used to assume people that didn't work that way were slackers or lacked ambition.

TBH the NPT has made me see things a bit differently.

Its not so different from many other careers. Just more regular. Types of self employed perceived as more 'fun' have seen both DH and I work as long hours with less security and yes, often more fun, but also sometimes, painted on smiles.

The person in the office opposite fir has done amazing things in her office. There are bean bags, and flowers and argue and photos etc etc. she feels she has to live there so she should like it and be comfortable...the bean bag offers her better sleep than the floor she says.

Fir has a sax in his office but nothing else personal ( well, junk, but no pictures or throws, or stuff)

Edit...I don't know what 'argue' was meant to be. She had no argue that fir had told me about. She was go into come and stay for a weekend and ride ponies...then special girl kicked the bucket. :(

I need to have spare brain space and energy for family issues right now too.

    Missed this post yesterday.

Yes, fc. I expect all those family issues take up a a lot of brain space and energy. I don't envy you one bit in juggling all of those, and I don't blame you for reaching the end of your tether with MiL.

Really pleased to hear about your Mum. Hope your Dad gets the best treatment for him x

Edit...I don't know what 'argue' was meant to be. (

Throws? (guessing from later in your post).

It's discussions like this that make me glad I'm bumping along nearer average wages in a relatively relaxed part of the corporate machine.

There would definitely be no time for carrying on 'hobbies' or Missions otherwise!

How very sad. The 3 Sisters are lovely and taking the cable car the view is spectacular. But it is all very wooded and a bit one road in, one road out. I can see the potential for huge devastation to the native animals. Katoomba is a beautiful little town too, but lots of little wooden houses iirc.

    They've lost 2 houses already.

The good thing is that it's still a little way away from the 3 Sisters and at the moment the fire is by the road so while more property is at risk it's relatively easy to fight for now. It really is hot and windy today, the worst weather for fire fighting Tomorrow is much cooler and the wind will drop so hopefully they'll get the thing contained.

It's very sad that the Blue Mountains is getting hit again with bad fires after what happened last year.

Thankfully since Black Saturday in Victoria in 2009 we've got a lot better at keeping the people safe, even if it's sometimes at the expense of property.

If you work 20 hours a day, you need at least half an hour a day for miscellaneous activities such as eating, washing, getting dressed/undressed, travelling to/from places. That leaves 3.5 hours for sleep. Which is perfectly possible as a one off, but for most people doing that 7 days a week is not an effective way to produce good work, or indeed to work efficiently.

    Ahem.

Says the lady who was posting at nearly 3 a.m.?

I hope you're going to catch up on sleep this morning or at least some other point this weekend.

Oh, and hamish, you can do it with kids, nannies, boarding schools.....

I grew up in a home where I saw this work pattern, and dh's parents didn't work the hours so much ( barrister and professor) , but the travel and unpredictability. He survived too. He's the only one of the kids with a very driven work ethic though, the others both followed academic paths more by default than active choice I think.

Hello. I came back because PN claimed someone had bought TEN mugs from my site. That is like eight more than ever. So I dug out my MSE password and have been reading this thread wondering if it was a joke.

By the time I got to Hamish and celery I was beginning to feel sad. Then...

FC123 you are a generous star! I hope they turn up and are OK. They often provide them upside down or with missing handles - but you can always use them as a conversation starter for a convivial evening.

And 33% off too! You always were the shrewd one on here.

I can do signed original but it takes a little organising. Start with a PM and we go from there.

As for PN - what a great friend she has been over the years.

Usual apologies for not coming by but here is ten minutes of my internet time gone and there is a lot to do when you are trying to make fifty cents a day.

I would add to this business of short sleeping hours that Maggie Thatcher used to claim she only slept four hours a night. Short sleeping hours are associated with Alzheimer's which she eventually got.

Seems like continuous sleep is one of the few things that can clear amyloid from the brain. You can also avoid Alzheimer's by being short-lived but that's shall we say a less desirable option. There's not much else can cut the risk, apart from certain bad habits that'll shorten your life.
