That's the max. It's probably 75 on low and 150 on high. It's a slow cooker so you're talking lightbulb wattage. Another reason you can go out and relax, without worrying it'll end up in flames!

I've got up to page 28 of the SC thread.... bookmarking a few bits/bobs. But that lot are cooking in big SCs, for lots of people, usually involving meat and roasts

I'll find some stuff I can use it for that fits with my food likes/stocks etc. Main thing is I have it now .... so it can be tried .... as opposed to being on the list of things to eventually get round to.

I'm sure, eventually, I'll find 2-3 recipes it's good for. The thing is, a lot of recipes can be done better/more efficiently by other methods, so it's a case of just finding something it does better/easier than other options I have for things.

We are delighted to have you, without the right guests the party would be a lot more dull. I'm sorry if we seem cliquey / scary to join, we certainly don't mean to be, I hope we haven't frightened anyone off in the past.

I've taken the Generalissimos to the RSL and we're doing the meat raffle. We've won a tray of T-bones and a pair of chooks (dead) so far.

The problem with this is that I spend a lot of time trying to get the kids to understand that lotteries are a tax on those who are not good at maths and that the big winners are the exceptions who prove the rule etc...and then you go and find a lottery with a positive expected value which will no doubt make it very hard to explain that most lotteries are bad just not that one....

Edit - we don't have a slow cooker...but tonight,s dinner was sausage stew - precook cumberland sausages in the oven allowing all the fat to drain off, use a saute pan (with lid) to fry onions, add peeled chopped carrots, tinned tomatoes (one), jar of bologneise sauce and one stock cube and some mixed herbs, add sausages and simmer with lid on for at least an hour but really as long as you have. And of course we do similar with different meat / sauce combinations, sometimes rather than precooking in the oven we do it in saute pan but we never add any oil and always pour any oil that comes out of the meat off....but as I say, we never slow cook......

Edit: No idea how much energy the electric hob uses on low to simmer the pot
    I think....

I've never had a slow cooker, does sticking a pot in the oven on 150 degrees count?

On a whim, we went to Windsor. Had a walk round, was very surprised to see so many antique/ nick-nack shops. Can't believe they make money.

Don't quote as I'm going to very delete this.

Feel a bit all over the place. A friend of mine, ex-friend I should say, has just been arrested and bailed in the States for sex crimes. Soliciting sex with an underage girl. He's just messaged a load of us on facebook; caught in a police sting by the looks of it. Really conflicted about it, after all I've known him about 10 years, and while he's always been slightly on the odd-bod side of things I had no idea there would be anything like this.

    Strange couple of weeks.

The meat raffles that Gen attends are a tax on people who are bad enough at maths to play the pokeys while they are in the building attending the raffle...

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I guess you need all the facts - I broke the law (by mistake) in the States by buying a beer a few days before my 21st birthday.....

    Welcome Ivy!

Lots of places are like that. I live in an area that calls itself a village. It has lots of peculiar shops that you never see people in. The financial side of shopkeeping baffles me.

Used to work near Portobello Road. Unless the stores there were like Harry Enfield's I Saw you Coming store, God only knows how they keep afloat!

And welcome to our gaff Ivy. Pull up a comfy chair by the fireplace and contribute as often (or as rarely) as you like!:)

    ....

    Strange couple of weeks.

I don't know if I'm a dinosaur, but to me it matters a lot just how underage the girl was (or was supposed to be, given this was a police sting). If she was 15 1/2, say, I would not be all that fussed about it. Of course, there has to be a minimum age, and your friend was breaking the law, but it is not seriously weird for a man to find a girl of that sort of age attractive. On the other hand, if she was 10 .....
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

My point being that perhaps in some states 17 and 364 days or even older might be a problem...I am making this up, I have no idea what the laws are in the US but I think until all is known it is hard to pass judgement.

Mas, it happens. Its one of the horrid realities and difficulties of getting older.

I'll be honest I still really struggle with some of those things. A very dear , dear friend who I love a lot and would be there for if they were in trouble I cannot be there for every day because they are serially 'the other person' in someone else's relationship and I just cannot listen to moaning or feel comfortable about socialising with a partner in those circumstances. Which might be unfair of me and its not my life.

On the other hand, I got grief I feel no guilt over for not contacting someone again who had a similar charge in the past once I found out. One of fir's university friends disappeared after hmmm......my memory is hazy...I think a driving thing which resulted in fatality, but have a feeling he was drunk. It was some sort of heinous thing like that. Fir would like to know how he is but the guy removed himself from social contact.

People disappoint. We disappoint others. We hope others will forgive us most of our transgressions. Some we have to accept become unworkable in relationships.
