    I've been Money Tipped!
It is, its horrific. And yet its so bad I kinda love it.

I have finally given up trying to find a giant oyster shell in decent condition in the uk. I'm a little sad. I've been looking for just over two years. I've decided that's long enough so I'm moving on.

Now I want to find the perfect shape oval vessel sink to mosaic over instead......

Want to do find it this week I think.

Scrap that, just bought something else entirely different instead. :rotfl:

Means I'll have to repaint down stairs loo. Walls, but blue ceiling will be staying ( glad I didn't waste time remedying dodgy cutting in, but wish I could do a beautiful air spraying effect down three walls. :o. Sigh, for artistic skill. That would look reall good with what I'm thinking in there now.

Right, now I need to buy a cabinet.

Can you get antiqued glass for shelves?

Thank you :) I'm looking forward to being able to "Thank" people or make comments without feeling i'd be butting in.

I don't know whether those of us you 'know' should be worried or not, :D. but jump right in. :)

I'm 61 next week, married with 3 children, 2 daughters and 1 son,the youngest of whom (son) still lives at home.

Are you of the male or female persuasion? If you want to remain gender-free, like LIR's Resident Parent, that's OK too :j

Sorry lir, that looks like it should be in the bathroom adjoining Kim Jong Un's cheese room, not yours.

Yep. Looks like he's overdone the Stilton

Sounds very interesting - is it at the shop in Lamb's Conduit Street, in Bloomsbury?

Have you read Saplings? It's a very good book indeed, but very sad. She is one of those authors who can really get inside a child's head.

Yes, it's there. I can't wait - it will be so good to see dear Dove Grey Reader again! :) She's fed my book addiction for about 10 years now! :o But a lot I bought when my parents were declining, and they're still on my To Be Read pile (no time to read with hospitalised parents), then 7 years till their estates were finalised. :o DGR was very kind to me via email when my parents died. We went to the Port Eliot Festival in Cornwall in 2012 and met DGR there in her tent where she chatted with a selection of authors, and the audience knitted. :) I'd read her previous Port Eliot blog entries, and rather late on we decided to go and it was wonderful. We glamped in a bell tent. Nice thing was one of our fave new Liverpool bands, Stealing Sheep, was playing there too, so we got to drink champagne with Emily (lead guitar) on her 21st birthday after the gig! :)

Saplings was the first book I read in preparation for the talk. I romped through it in 2 days as was carried away by the story. DD1 gave it to me for my birthday. Had hoped to re-read before talk, but am running out of time! :o Have also read Doreen, which I loved. Currently struggling with The Squire, which I'm finding very irritating. About half way through, but author's view of childbirth is a load of carp in my view. :o  :rotfl: Oh, nearly forgot The Homemaker, have very mixed thoughts on that one! But a good read. Ties in somewhat with some of the stuff on TV at the mo about shops - the series about Selfridges that I gave up on due to lack of time. ;) Last book to be in discussion is Princes in the Land, which I haven't a copy of yet. I will probably indulge on Wednesday! :)

Without knowing anything about your household, I do have some experience of an elderly lady with dementia. In retrospect, and hindsight is a wonderful thing, I can see that we failed to recognise "unable" and thought it was "unwilling". We spent an awful lot of time arguing about food, for example, when it would've been a lot kinder simply to let the old lady not eat.

I also feel quite strongly that the medics failed to tell us the truth in clear terms. Maybe, we did not want to hear, but mainly I think they did not want to spell it out.

Dear GDB, I so know what you mean! Mum's GP was blithering useless, wouldn't tell us anythin ("patient confidentiality") and took no notice of what we were telling him about what was going on. She was hallucinating, though to begin with we wondered if it was Charles Bonnet syndrome as she had macular degeneration and her sight was very bad. She kept complaining about kids getting into the flat, had the police round at least once I think. Maybe she had CBS as well as the dementia. But at the time we didn't know she had dementia. When I saw my nice lady GP (since left the practice) after my parents' deaths her comment was that sometimes you can have too much Patient Confidentiality. I do think where dementia is concerned carers should be told. Mum used to phone multiple times a day, to the point where I had to unplug phone sometimes - OH was still working back then, but she seemed to think he would go over at the drop of a hat to sort out "the kids that have come into the flat" or other stuff. It's a terrible terrible illness, and when you are left in the dark and don't know what's going on it makes it so much worse. Hugs to you and your DW. :grouphug:You've been through some extraordinarily difficult times.
I just popped out to sign up for the free kitchen contest, so name's in the hat ... although unlikely to be drawn :)

I also wandered into the "posh furniture shop" round the corner, took some random photos of bits and bobs - of course I never get mithered by sales staff as they don't approach me or offer to help even if I am looking for help anywhere.

Saw a nice "boat bookcase" - the sort of thing that's like cutting a rowing boat in half, then standing it up with the pointy bit at the ceiling. And this one had two drawers at the bottom ... cost an arm and a leg though. If I had that money and was after one I'd be looking for more of an authentic look, more rustic.... this was definitely made by master craftsmen in posh wood etc... it was quite like this one: http://www.trhayes.co.uk/toscana-boat-bookcase.html
    .

Here's hoping you come up lucky for the kitchen draw! :) Sometimes luck changes - I never used to win stuff, but we even have had a few lottery wins over the last few years! :j Nothing big, best one was £101 the weekend we delivered DD1 to uni, we were glad of it, as meant we could give her the cash she needed for a special drawing pen for map making (she did Geography) that was stupid expensive for a pen. ;)

I don't like those boat book cases. For its footprint you can fit more books onto one that goes straight up! We have a whole wall of books in the "music room", plus 2 tall Billies in living room that need organising still, plus 2 glass fronted that came from parental flat, one in hallway, one in alcove in living room... And I still have a row of piles of books on floor in bedroom. Any bookcase we have has to earn its keep in terms of books stored, we're not bothered about design. But boat book cases do look pretty, just would be useless in terms of practicality for us! :rotfl:

If you win the competition, won't they want to take publicity pics?

I'll get a stand in. They can take photos of the kitchen ... not me. They were vague on the T&Cs.... leaflet said "full .... on website..." so bit of a cop out.

Anyway, I'm not a winner :) so it
    won't become an issue

I've come across lir, PN and NDG on other boards.

Welcome.... to be honest, the other boards scare the cr4p out of me :)
I post and run ..... I'm "not like them" and on other boards they don't like people not being like them :)

    It's nice and cosy/safe here.

That's the max. It's probably 75 on low and 150 on high. It's a slow cooker so you're talking lightbulb wattage. Another reason you can go out and relax, without worrying it'll end up in flames!
