One of my parent's neighbours is having a similar issue with carers. She is 90, as bright as a button and fiercly independent but has been ill just recently, she absolutely hates the loss of being able to do things at the times she wants to do them and because there is no set time for the carers to come, the inability to plan things.

She has had carers arrive at 7, 8 or even after 9 in the morning but because she has had ones arrive at 7, she has been getting up very early so they don't catch her sleeping. For the bedtime ones, some have turned up as early as 7 at night and wanting to get her settled in bed...this for a woman who is a nightowl and has never gone to bed at 7 in her life. Alternatively, they come while Emmerdale is on, a big no no in quite a few elderly people's view.

She gets really annoyed at being treated almost like someone with dementia, or like a child. She may be 90, she may be very small but one thing Pat is not, is like a child. She is a former nurse and her legs are a little weak from illness (and from a doctor mess up where he overdosed her a few weeks back which required a hospital stay and an emergency procedure to save her life)

She is grateful for the carers whilst she is so weakend but she just wishes there was a regular time for them to arrive so she could plan and know where she is...oh and that they would stop talking to her like a 2 year old.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

For anyone who reads the house buying board, there seems a lot of posts about garden grabbing neighbours. I'm just waiting until someone meets their adversary on the board.

Well, marketing, location, timing, chance/luck too.
    :)
It's not the best, or best name, that wins, it's all in the marketing and getting the marketing right. Marketing might be a sudden meeting you attend, happen to stand next to a bloke who lives in the next road, who then turns out to want/need what your area of specialism is that week/month or on his shortlist to pursue shortly. And/or, you randomly bump into the same bloke at some other event and he spots you and has, since, got a contact name for you.

What is important is to price in the cost of getting bigger and/or employing staff, and/or providing wholesale/discounts/trade prices to your retail prices from the start.... else you can never grow or replace yourself if you want a week off.

I have a vague plan for growth but TBH I don't think that needs to be in place from the start.

As Woody Allen said, "80% of success is turning up". If I make the food and start selling it I have a chance to succeed. If I sit on my Arsenal wondering what to call the company or whether to wear a blue or red shirt then I will fail.

My experience with mother-in-law was that the council's emergency care was utterly useless. As other people have said, the carers came at all times, to suit themselves. It was always a different person coming, which was particularly confusing for a lady with dementia. In the end, we stopped using the service.

DW found a full-time carer, who stayed with mother-in-law when she moved back to her own house. She was fantastic. Found by personal recommendation, as she had looked after the wife of a friend of ours.

To add to the team, we also hired Five Strikes. She had the distinction of having already lost five clients so far during the year by the time we hired her in early March.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The firework season is well under way around here with Divali. Fortunately, the little mongrel from Battersea takes no notice of the fireworks at all. I'm starting to feel quite proud of her.
Don't you just love it how GDB grew so fond of his mutt....:rotfl:
