Used car - broken down after 2 days!!!

  • Just phoned Mitsubishi UK and they will now look into the case for me. I honestly don't think the warranty company will pay for the vehicle to be repaired so I am faced with either paying for the repairs myself or rejecting the car. Lets face it - used car warranties are hardly worth the paper they are written on!!

A dealer backed warranty for an approved used car is normally quite good but i assume that is not the type of warranty that you have been sold

I assume you have got some sort of after market warranty that can be a pain, you said the clutch has failed and that is a wear and tear item that wont be covered by the warranty so dont hold your breath on that

your fight as said above is with the selling dealer and regardless of what they say the responsibility is with them to repair replace or refund the car, I cant believe a main dealer is washing their hands of this car after you have only had it for two days

it is a real shame that the car failed so far from home and was taken to a different dealer, it would have been far easier for you if the car had been recovered to the selling dealer which was not possible

I really do hope you get this sorted and keep us informed how you get on

The repair is fully down to the selling dealer - what warranty they gave is really irrelevant.

If the 2nd Mitsubishi dealer and says the clutch must have been near worn out when you collected the car - then the 1st dealer will have a hard job proving that it failed due to the 'abuse' you gave in 2 days.

I hope you understood the relevance of my comment about an oversize trailer.

Mitsubishi UK should sort this out in good time - they don't need bad publicity.

Motor Guy's comments are absolutely spot-on by the way.

I may have missed this, but has the OP confirmed the selling dealer was actually a Mitsubishi franchised dealer?

I haven't seen that confirmed anywhere yet. It's been alluded to in post #6 but for absolute clarity's sake I'm not certain.

  • so the saga continues.......Colley Motors in South Wales (original selling dealership) have finally given the ok for the Rochdale garage to complete the work. As it is so late on in the day, the repairing garage cannot guarantee when the work will be completed, so in the meantime I have a hire car to use. My car will then be delivered back to original dealership sometime next week, where I drop off hire car. This has taken me the best part of 2 days to sort out and was only resolved when I complained to Mitsubishi UK. I am inclined to keep all receipts for expenses incurred through me not having use of my car. The aftersales has been truly appalling!!

    Good for you Sarah.

What a bad experience to have immediately after purchase.

I do hope that you'll be able to enjoy the use of the car without further trouble.

Good luck with the travel and other costs.
