Are these speeds over wifi ??
Or direct connection to the master socket .

Any getting out of contract requires you to go through the BT complaints procedure .
  • Hiya,

I signed up for a similar BT deal from the MSE site about 9-10 days ago but the deal wasn't as good as this.

Can I use my 14 day cancellation and then apply for this?

I don't want to cancel and then be stuck with no deal, if you catch my drift.

    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

I signed up in June for installation in July. I didn't have a problem with any of the activation and the mastercard reward card arrived promptly. However they have still not sent out my £30 cheque despite chasing them multiple times.

I seriously hope nothing goes wrong with my broadband service as, based on my experience, the customer service department is inept. They didn't even bother reading my query regarding my missing cheque properly. This happened twice, which is just frustrating as it's a waste of everyone's time.

I did eventually get a response to say they'd reapplied for the cheque on my behalf. Tomorrow is the latest day it's due to arrive (30 days after the second application). I'm not holding my breath and am getting ready to chase them again.

If I switch to BT from Virgin I could save over £400pa.

The only thing that puts me off is the need for reliable broadband. I'm not hearing good things about BT CS on this thread. Is there anything positive to be said for them?

    Hi vfm4meplse,
i have been there as well. I was with Virgin, but following the price increases gave my notice. Opted for BT Infinity, with all current cashback deals it would be much cheaper than Virgin.
Registered for BT and got instalation date for nearly a month after. The phone line was working a week before switch on date, and its working fine. The broadband, though, still hasnt been activated, and was due last wednesday. No communication, just a message saying sorry for the delay. I talked to them on the chat next day, was told it would be working within 24 hours. Guess what? No it didnt. Rang them next time, UK based call centre, and was told there is a problem on the cabinet. Was told it will definitelly be up and working next tuesday. But, having read a lot about BT, i wont keep my hopes up.
Lucky i still have a week left with Virgin, otherwise i would be left without internet.
i wanted to give BT a chance, but surely regret it now. And as the 14 day that you can cancel without penalty has now passed, i am trapped with them with a year contract. No way out. And reading on the forums, there are people that wait months before BT sort their internet.
i really hope that i will change my mind about BT, and that they will be true to their word. Its a game of Wait and see...

Update: now monday, one day ahead of schedule, my BT fibre has been activated and so far it is excelent. I still have 70mb virgin broadband active, due to be disconnected, and BT fibre at maximum 52mb (infinity 1) feels much quicker and responsive. Impressed so far. But better be quiet and fingers crossed.

I had 3 week without internet. Difficult to say if it was leaving Plusnet or joining BT that was the root of the problem. But BT lied on more than one occasion because i contacted Openreach and the story was somewhat different. BT told me they had asked for an expedite on my line(which they pay extra for), but openreach have records to prove BT lied.

    Thanks!

I have been offered a better deal than I already have with Virgin, but will still be paying through the nose for services that I don't need.

Eta: I found a much better package with BT - or so I thought! - and was happy to proceed based on price, but the dealbreaker was the following:
    Your broadband speeds
We estimate your speed will be between 3.0 Mbps and 8.0 Mbps
    Guaranteed speed
Your guaranteed minimum speed is 2.0 Mbps. We'll always try to restore your speed. If your actual line speed stays below this minimum we won't charge you if you decide to leave your broadband contract.
3-8 Mbps, are they joking?!! I'll be sticking to Virgin, the extra £200 pa is worth it for a decent BB speed.

  • I tried to sign up with BT using the link you provided, but there was no option to pay the whole line rental upfront. So it's not a very attractive deal after all. Back to the drawing board...
