  • I tried to sign up twice yesterday. Going through the sign up pages and ticking the pay a year in advance box, the running total for fees was as described by mse, but near the end new figures appeared , making the total monthly payment £32.99 (without any extras)! So obviously didn't go ahead-no saving on my current supplier.
  • I've tried to sign up for the fibre broadband unlimited £397 plus £125 deal. Price changes from £11 per month to £21 per month as you work through the form. BT chat refused to help saying pursue the link from the savings web-site. The advert on the BT website only comes up via a savings link although it is on their web-site. Looks like an error between the 25 gb limited package which is £29.99 and the unlimited at £39.99. Are BT obliged to honour the offer??

Had to go via the directors office to get mine sorted, still slow, and then had to chase the cheque. Signed up to BT mobile, again still chasing the Amazon voucher.

Apologies if this has been answered before but how do I claim the £50 cashback that was offered as an incentive for the deal ending 27th Oct through MSE? The link has now gone (all fine with the £125 Reward - claimed through BT site). Thanks!

  • So, from a leaving BT customer, beware the "exit fees". £31 to de-activate the broadband, plus another £4.59 BT sport out of contract charge - for dates AFTER i've already left!
There appears to be much discussion on other forums about the notorious de-activation charges, and a lot of mixed messages about who is liable. As I have now moved to Virgin, I have had a range of discussions with BT direct, the last of which admitted that as my phone line was being transferred, I wasn't in fact liable for the de-activation charge - only for them to be promptly added to my final bill anyway. Which is just a continuation of additional charges being added to my bill throughout my whole contract, charges that BT always regretted adding, before promptly refunding and then re-adding them to the next month's bill - ad infinitum. It seems that BT just add charges by default and hope that they won't get challenged. Please challenge these additional charges if you do switch to them, charges that are often just incorrect, and at best are a gross overcharge for the costs incurred - eg. charging a leaving customer and then also a new customer (activation charge) in the case of a house move, for the same work - which by all accounts mostly involves a simple cheap electronic remote access to an exchange. The more who challenge and raise a stink, the more likely BT will improve their game, plus start behaving like most other suppliers who don't charge these exorbitant activation and de-activation charges. They absorb the potential small extra costs into their more transparent monthly charging structure.
And the point of all this is that you may want to factor in "exit" fees when determining the best provider, plus the hassle of constantly chasing down refunds due to incorrect billing. There are better providers out there, who offer very similar services, at comparable prices, and who appear to have a little more moral backbone.

I signed upto bt tv, phone and broadband on the 30th of october for connection on the 11th of November. I got a text to say this would be delayed to the 25th of November.

So come Friday my phone was connected but no broadband I phoned up and was told they had cancelled my broadband order but didnt know why so i have been left without broand band and only freeview tv.They were going to call back today or Monday and i would have to reorder the broandband

if i manage to get the broadband do you think i will still get my gift card or could i just cancell the whole package.
  • I saw the BT Broadband offer in October, and as my existing broadband with TalkTalk continued to drop out leaving unable to stream TV or watch anything online, I decided to give it a go.

The offer was pretty good, and BT offered a £75 pre-paid MasterCard reward to improve the offer. I've not had my Broadband installed for nearly two weeks, but seem ineligible to claim the reward. I've submitted two enquiries to BT to find out why (using their online reward claim enquiry system) and I'm yet to get a response...

On the plus side, my broadband with BT is better than with TalkTalk (so far).
  • I have signed up to transfer from standard PlusNet broadband to BTinfinity broadband via the money saving expert to get the black Friday deal. £9/month for broadband, £17.something for line rental, plus set up costs. When I selected the options the quote matched the offer, when I processed to confirm the order the broadband switched to £21/month. I contacted BT phone support, they weren't sure but suggested completing the order, then contacting billing to get it updated. I did this, billing said they will get me the right price when I'm activated and said others had contacted them to say that they had had the same problem. It does worry me slightly that they will not honor this upon activation. Then a few hours later they phoned me to say that the phone line would be activated on 13 December, but they couldn't start the process to activate my broadband until my phone line is set up. This will take 10-14 days. They confirmed that for this period I will have no broadband. When I last changed providers (sky to PlusNet) I seem to think it was fairly seamless for phone and broadband. Why isn't the transfer seamless with BT? I do a fair bit of work from home and my son likes to play on the XBox with friends (main reason for the upgrade to fibre, as he moans about the current speeds and lag on the XBox). Is a delay between phone line activation and broadband activation normal?

I recently moved from Plusnet to Origin Broadband. It all took place overnight (both phone line and broadband) and I never had any loss of service.

Last year, I moved from Talktalk to Plusnet, and again it was a seamless overnight transfer.

Perhaps I've just been lucky, as I assume it must depend on how easy it is for Openreach to do the transfer at the exchange. Our exchange doesn't have unbundling, so perhaps that makes it easier?
