Get the forecast in the morning and don't risk it as you could end up being in a queue for hours behind a pile up and jack-knifed lorries.

The weather cams are a good useful tool but once it starts snowing it can come down fast.

Just been out front and it's freezing hard here - skating rink stuff.

I got back ok, but it was slow, and had to avoid both the M3 and A30. Middle of the night so not much traffic either.

Let me know what you decide to save me checking the forecast ☺️

    well ....I didn't go !

son came in last night and related all the accidents etc on the route I intended to take
apparently it was a band of snow and ice right across my route and no alternative way :( I was thinking if I got stuck on the way back id have to get under the rug on the pony !!
anyway the lady is going to bring it to us this week [weather permitting] and we will buy blind , but she is a lovely lady and trust the pony will suit our needs as she loves him and has refused several people buying him , she wants a forever home and not ending up sold on and on ...

apart from that its cold but not AS cold as it has been , ice not too bad but most roads been gritted.

DONT READ IF YOU DONT LIKE SAD
son came in the other day from work [fire service] and he seemed upset. he later came in and told me about that day a young girl [17] had jumped from a 100ft bridge into the river. passerby's called to a canoeist and he managed to get to her and somehow bravely managed to get her to the shore where my sons crew took over.. he doesn't know if she will make it but he said the canoeist was exceptionally brave [in his 60s] as he could have capsized easily and he hoped he gets recognised for this.
I think people think firemen just put fires out and not realise the awfull scenes they have to attend . they are all trained first responders now so lives could be in their hands before medics get there...
sorry about that peeps but it got to me ...

anyway, I hope you all stay safe and warm , have a good rest of the weekend xx

-8 degrees when we went out. Car off the road on the way home, police there.

Stopped at the gritting depot & filled a sack with salt for our track - gosh there's hardly any salt in there. I know they've been using a lot but....

Alfie I used to work as a radio operator in an emergency room & the w/e were often people throwing their selves off bridges. It was so sad. If they went off one they didn't often survive because of the height & the impact. They did eventually get the observation tower shut because of this & had Samaritan notices all over the bridge.
I used to do w/e usually but never got used to it when it was a 'jumper'.

Think you would have got to Alresford OK Alfie, as our snow melted, but up towards Basingstoke there's still plenty, so the route up to Banbury would probably have been slow, if not messy.

My brother is a GP, but was a junior doctor working in AE with paramedics when the firefighters last went on strike. I remember him telling me the possible implications for a lot of RTAs ... there's obviously a significant difference to the accident victims as to whether a fire crew or a doctor/paramedic is wielding the saw :(

Been lucky my way with no snow to speak of in the last week. Been very cold but dry. Beautiful day today though, sat out in the sun for an hour this afternoon.

We escaped with just a few inches in many places and most has vanished now. There's nothing dire forecast in the next week or so, so it seems to be a case of 'As you were' down here. :)

The only other thing of note over the weekend concerned our posh neighbours up thre road, who had their 3rd 'professional' firework display in two months. Maybe expected for bonfire night and New Year, but every time they do it the cats freak out and the horses next door don't like it much either.:(

This was followed by a morning of pops and bangs, as there was a competitive shoot on the hill nearby. Poor cats were growling again, but after a while they worked-out it was just some normal Sunday mayhem with no bright flashes, which is what bothers them most.

Got home ok it was -8 coming through Fort William. However not much snow until we hit Northumberland and it was like a big snow bomb had gone off.

All jobs done at the house and even managed to get somebody to cut the grass when it does decide to grow.

Hope everyone is safe and well.
Short lived fun for us, weather has warmed back up back to double digits, with the humidly levels so high its not pleasant.
Neighbour non issue is sorting itself, They seem a nice enough couple kind of remind me of the old TV show with Mrs bucket and her long suffering husband :D
im poping round with the side site plan as we are about to remove and replace an old 8x8 shed and deck its just a utility area along the side so nothing is changing just a like for like replacement.but they seem the most nervous about changes to the area. so I like to keep them at ease, we landed on our feet with a good bunch. I will admit after living in a hamlet with just a handful of smallholdings everyone good as gold but you could go days without seeing each other, to shifting to a cul de sac I was a bit nervous about proximity as we are such outdoor people.
