Are you planning on burning a sackful of mail to get it going ????

Many jobs that need doing here are performed most economically by postmen...... in their non-postman time. ;)

    Major hedge cutting = postman.
    Fencing = Pete + postman.
    Aga servicing/lighting = postman.

Chimney sweeping used to be postman as well, but I do that now. :D

We must have the coldest house this side of Puddington. :(Removing that insulation was one of the worst jobs I've done in a long time.

...And you'll be happy to know we used string, because DW was in charge of that bit. :rotfl:

well done dave.... string eh ? i miss the postmans abilities too [from old house] he still does our hay tho.. thing is this property doesnt need anything done ..... well my cold seems on the turn :j im snuffly but the sore throat has gone... i have the likkle dog staying with me and hes getting more confident by the hour .. sad scenario tho as the other one is on his own whereas this one has doggy company. he has his mistress out of work hours and is let out at lunch time by relative but we will have to see how it all pans out. this one has settled in great and loves doing "big dog" things :rotfl: i have to drop my car to garage tomorow a.m. for a recall on various bits..:o having it serviced at same time. i have a courtesy car for 2 days [i insisted ;) ] . im then off to sussex to pick up friend and return her home. she has another house there [her sister lives in annexe] , went up with her daughter but stayed a bit longer. its an amazing old beamed cottagey place. im so nosey when it comes to houses... should have been a NICE estate agent...:rotfl::rotfl: weather has been cold [5d] and dismal all day.. rain/drizzle/dry/rain etc..

What an incredible difference having a bit of woolly stuff up in the loft makes! Tonight it's 5c outside, so not terribly cold, but we're not very comfortable. :(

We've been running on just the woodburner, plus an occasional boost from an electric convector up till now, even with a few holes in the kitchen ceiling and a bit of ply for a window, so I suppose that shows we're reasonably fuel-efficient....under normal circumstances. I'm certainly sold on getting 400mm minimum up there once the plumber and electrician have done their stuff. :)

    Great photo's alfie :D:D:D

Those poor creatures are clearly exhausted by all the pampering :):):)

The thing with insulation Dave is that it seems to be passive rather than actually 'doing' anything. Plus not many people take it out so they can see how much difference it makes. Very interesting to hear about your experience. We should really get our act together and up the loft insulation here. :o When we had cavity wall insulation done in the bungalow I noticed the difference but Mr BD was oblivious......Getting the windows and doors done here has made a massive difference though as they were so draughty.

Raining again here :( and forecast to rain until late afternoon.

Tiling in utlity nearly finished, just needs grouting. Will post some photo's before and after when done.

Not looking forward to today and tomorrow - installer coming to finish off the utitlty and the other 'jobs yet to be done'. Then it will be a case of arguing about the bill.

Would you pay for his time when he didn't do as agreed or as I asked and then he had to spend time putting it right? I really don't want to but Mr BD likes a quiet life ;)

Ah what a shame, you didn't get to play with your dispenser :( - however, I'm sure there will be other opportunities just round the corner ;)

Alfie, what wonderfully relaxed animogs you have. Bimble isn't 100% asleep though! :rotfl:

I would certainly argue against paying for rectification work time, Better Days, especially if the original went against instructions. 'Things' do happen, even with the best workmen/women, and if there is fault, it should be acknowledged. Fortunately, when our chap had to re-do something, he admitted he'd made an error and deducted the hours himself, without us having to debate the matter.

Very stiff this morning :(, but all I need to do today is clean up in the loft and stack all the boards we walk on out of the way.

As it's still grim outside, I expect we shall start building an interior wall today to replace the one demolished yesterday. By heck, that was a fighter, but they won't all be as bad! It was made in 1992 as part of the first extension and, for some reason, the blocks they used were exceptionally hard.
  • morning all,

Alfie beautiful picture of then chilling out..

talking about the dreaded lurgy, haven't been right for the last day or two, like I am on the brink of a cold, throat is starting to hurt,

I am way behind on my ebay listings, so really do need to do a final push for those pre- Christmas ebay sales.

I am in two minds to phone the auction house up and see if we can put things in the next auction next week, or if it is too late??

Davesnave, hope this cold snap doesn't last too long for you.

Grey and grismal this morning, but OH got some garlic in at the lottie yesterday afternoon. We spent Saturday and Sunday afternoons at lottie too, and got in onions and shallots... still have more shallots (different kind) to go in, plus some leftover onions and garlic that we'll plant in back garden. I hadn't realised how many onions there were, thought there'd only be a dozen or so of each kind. So the other day I ordered spring planting onions and garlic too! :o Heaven only knows where we'll put them! We used about half the plot for alliums last year, so that area is a no go area for them, especially since a lot of the garlic failed with some weird unidentified disease. (a gardening forum I'm on does a bulk buy, and we all had problems, so it looks as if it's not down to anything any of us did wrong, other than plant in a year when it rained so much! :( )

We just had a really delicious breakfast of flash fried smoked salmon and egg on toast, really yummy. The recipe is for on toasted bagel, but I find bagels rather too tough to chew, they leave my jaw muscles aching!

OH has appointment at his bank this afternoon, so not sure when we'll get to lottie again. I have dentist again tomorrow. Was supposed to have new front veneers and a broken ceramic filling thingy replaced, but apparently the lab had problems with the impressions taken last week, so will just be having impressions re-done and will have to have another visit for fitting. Hope they can be done before Xmas.

Then on Friday afternoon we're off to a retirement party for my accountant. He was exceptionally kind to my Mum when my Dad was in and out of hospital and then in nursing home, so we're going to take him a bottle of single malt - OH suggests Glen Morangie, if any of you are whisky drinkers would you say that's a decent one for a whisky man?

So looks as if we won't get to plant the final set of shallots before Saturday. I think then it'll be weed as much as poss, and cover with weed suppressant. And then we can turn our attention to the garden a bit more.

Any of you watching Puppy Love on BBC4? It's filmed in West Kirby, which is where my parents lived on the front in the last years of their lives. Lots of shots of the River Dee and Hilbre Island, and along the prom. DD2 and family now live in a town house overlooking the marine lake, just the other side of the park that my parent's flat was by. Seems odd seeing the place on the tele! :rotfl:
