Alexelisey very kindly gave me some epi's earlier this year and one of the little ones has flowered!
Lovely
Needed something to brighten the day as I've had another stressful day with the chap working on the utility. I asked him to consult me before he hung the doors so I could decide what side they hinged on and also to consult me before he put the side panels on.
But he didn't bother. He couldn't understand why I was so cross. His attitude was that he could change things if I wasn't happy, but he wanted to do it 'his way' first.
I really don't know how I held on to my temper :mad::mad:
Grismal here today too maggie. Hope your teeth get sorted and all went well for your OH at the bank. Kindness goes a long way, doesn't it? There was a thread about kindness being the glue for relationships on the marriages board recently.
How's the ache's and pains Dave? Did you manage to have a bit of a quieter day?
Took a photo of my marmalade cat emulating alfie's animogs - didn't come out too well, but you get the idea, this is him exhausted first thing this morning after a night asleepIt is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Not a lot to report in the garden...so here's what's on my windowsill at the office!0

The Christmas cacti are so welcome on days such as the dull one we've just had. The garden is now distinctly miserable, but the valleys are still pretty, with many beeches holding on to their amber leaves.
I had a slightly quieter day thanks, Better Days, but it's funny you having decisions to take over doors, as we were doing the same here, though we were positioning the walls too.
The difference in our case was that Mr Builder asked for guidance! :A It may not seem much, altering a cloakroom wall by a few inches, but it can make it substantially easier when it comes to fitting-in a standard washbasin, rather than some weird thing that's neither use nor ornament.
I did go back to the loft, but only to clean it. The electricians, hearing that we'd cleared it, are keen to get in and lay some cables so I'm making it as tidy as I can. The previous owners had mice, which chewed up a huge amount of pipe lagging!:(
Much mirth at Mole Valley Farmers when I rolled into the feed building with my ticket for layers pellets. I suppose they'd never seen a van stuffed completely full of insulation before...well, not completely full, because they squeezed the pellets in somehow! :rotfl:
Hope Rummer is OK. She said she'd not be posting for a while, but it has been a while now....0 -
BD wasn't there ONE epi, and the others were Schlumbergera or, as Dave said, Christmas cactus? My goodness, that was four months ago already... However, what a gorgeous colour! None of mine are in flower but my epi has four stems getting on for a foot long each, and the little Schlumbergera are flourishing. Once they flower I'll be able to propagate them, as I shall know what colours they are. Right now it'd be lucky dip!
Work is hectic, but to be expected as it's "silly season" (I work in the alcohol business). One of my customers has this week placed another 60 or so orders to be delivered before Christmas. They've left it until the last minute AGAIN whereas my other customer is nicely organised and is now only ordering where sales have exceeded expectations. Once it's over, it'll be time for MY Christmas :jAlthough I do need to make a few edible pressies for family some time in amongst all of that... Anyone have a time machine I can borrow? :rotfl:"...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -
Doh!
Yes you are both right it is the Christmas cactus which is flowering. The epi is doing really well too Alexelisey, leaves are much bigger now and it has thrown out another 'branch'. It seems happy on the north facing windowsill in the room where I spend most of the day along with the cacti, african violet (which flowers profusely - but it is a very easy plant) and a white flowering Streptocarpus which my lovely 'cat lady' neighbour gave to me.
I wouldn't mind a time machine either - then I could choose someone else to do our kitchen and utility - he's back again today. Think of me
We had to put in one of those tiny washbasins in the cloakroom Dave - there isn't a lot of choice for that size - well not for what I was prepared to pay anyway! They are a bit daft, they are just about big enough for my little nephews to use. I've hung on to the old avocado one (much to the amusement of Mr BD) but it is beautifully styled and I hope to use it in the next property.
Heating engineer came round on Tuesday and is going to do a quote for putting in a valve so we can control the HW separately from the CH, put on a tank stat and install the wireless programmer. Plus a new pump for the CH side as the current one is a bit underpowered and old. Nice chap, seems to know his onions and kindly explained things to me with a little diagram - I do like to have a basic understanding of how the system works. In the winter the temp of the HW is frankly dangerous, but not a lot we can do about it if we want to have the CH on.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Oh and talking of mice Dave, a mouse nest was found behind the radiator in the utility when it was taken off!! The PO had cats so clearly they were derelict in their duties.
Lovely flowers IHS, really brightens up your work area.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

We went down to zero here last night, and even with our big woodburner on full blast, max temp in the living room was 17c.:(
OK, allow for some extra draughts etc at present, and that still means we'd be pushed to get 20c on an only averagely cold night without loft insulation.
All good food for thought.....:)0 -
morning all,
not a well bunny this morning, throat is clogged up and I and coughing is worse than yesterday..
so off work today, not good really, but will try and get a few bits done, and listed on the bay if I can..
was eating honey by the tablespoon full last night to try and coat/sooth my throat...
Not much going on here really, now that the floor/ceiling is done in one part of the ranch, and the bathroom suite is up stairs in the bathroom part of the house, we now need to earn more funds to put the partition stud wall up between the bathroom/bedroom, and get the insoluation up on the wall, and then start plumbing the bathroom in, and the kitchen sink and the rayburn range in... so hope I ebay is going to be good to me in the next few weeks... if I can get a shifty on and list loads of stuff....
oooo ye and before plumbing the kitchen sink and rayburn in, we need to dig up the floor and damp coarse/insulate etc...
all fun and games lolWork to live= not live to work0 -
Hope you feel better soon CTC, especially on a miserable November morning.
Probably a bit late now but I find Lamberts zinc and vit c lozenges very soothing for a sore throat (I have a permanent sore throat something to do with the ME). It does say don't suck too many as you may get the runs, but I've found no problems with 5 or 6 a day

I usually shop around as the price varies quite a lot.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Hmmm.....the builders' merchants sent £160 worth of acoustic bars to us which aren't that at all, so now the builder has to rip all of them out.
I am not stressed!
