Ragwort. Pull. Heatstroke (mild). Take a break. Ragwort. Heatstroke. Hayfever. Ragwort. Ragwort.
I have, however, cleared a five-acre field of every single trace of ragwort, except all the stuff I missed, and all that other stuff I saw as I came back across the field. Oh, and the rest. But, that aside, that field at least is completely, utterly, absolutely clear of ragwort. Thank goodness for ragwort forks. So, it's mainly covered in dock, thistle and buttercup now. Oh, and some ragwort, obviously. But, the pulled stuff is now drying (well away from any herbivore) ready to be burned. I shall then inhale the smoke, and suffer from alkaloidosis. Might cure the hayfever!:D:D Achoo!
Has to be said, compared with the weed coverage in the Agent's photos last year from before we bought it, we are already almost weed-free!
I could do with a good storm... but not until I've cut the grass (docks, thistles and buttercup) on that field!
Builders... Plumbers in particular  I have that to look forward to soon. We have yet to start that side of things, and it's partly the dread of having them all over the place that's delaying things. I am becoming even more of an unsociable git!0 -

Ha ha ha.......that's hilarious.
Spent three hours in incredible midgied evening last night attempting to get a lamb out from the boy's field - she'd got under a fence. Eventually went and asked a couple who have a holiday home if they wouldn't mind helping - he'd not long had a knee op, so it was just me & his wife who did the running - god! OH manned the gate, but ended up with two boys in the girls field, so that was a bit of a no no, so had that then to sort out.
Ragwort is easy to get out & control Dafty - I hardly have any come up now. It's a really worthwhile task. I even do the road side - no one else does, but it was out of control here. There's an empty croft that is riddled with it & a woman put her cattle in & she never even pulled one out - I don't know how they can, but we have far too many rushes & bracken so have just ordered a sythe........I am quite jiggered just not even keeping on top of the chaos. It's all a bit chore like & over whelming sometimes.0 -
Just a quick note to say I'm reading but not doing much at present... OH's Mum died just after midnight on Sunday so OH has been tied up with sorting things out with his brother so not done much in garden or lottie. Though he's at lottie now to water some stuff and sow carrots.
She'd been in NH for over 3 years, gradually getting worse. Last few weeks mostly sleeping. She was 93 in April, and over a year ago had said to her friend that she wished she'd gone already. She was a friend rather then mother in law to me, so sad, but glad too if you know what I mean.
Hugs from Liverpool to any who need them.0 -
Maggie - so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend/MIL. A truly good innings & a blessing that she is in peace.
It's so hot it is exhausting - shouldn't complain about the weather but if I could pant I would.0 -
Maggie sorry for your loss.
The cottage will be available for lets and should go live this week. First guests in tomorrow (eek) these were bookings taken by the previous owner.

It's sad to lose those we love, but there's relief too when they're ill, or simply so aged that life itself becomes a burden. Hope your OH finds inner strength in the coming weeks, maggie.
Here, we had the final topping-out, as the last tiny piece of ridge tile was cemented in place and all the surplus tiles removed from the scaffolding......We managed to swap all our slightly non-matching tiles on the 1988 extension for the free ones we gained 2 years ago, which do match!
However, that wasn't even finished before the phone was ringing and we were told that the insulation guys will be here on Friday. So, blistering heat or not, that was me in the attics, clearing up for the rest of the day!:(
Unfortunately, I must go back up there tomorrow to finish off all sorts of little jobs and take photos before everything is obliterated by 270mm of new insulation.
Luckily for them, it should be much cooler for the guys on Friday. They sound OK. Fingers crossed!0 -
hi all..
before anyone asks....nope !
weather has changed a bit now, cooler and a feel of rain in the air..
had tilly shod yesterday so ready to drive, spent time catching ruby to get her shoes off !! she is a **** when she wants to be...
friend and I decided then to wash storm, as hes almost white really we decided to see if he still was !
bottle of good old fairy later he shone ! his mane is down over his shoulder and tends to what I call "twiddle" so we spent ages straightening/brushing it out then put a special conditioner on it [and tail and fetlocks]to stop it twiddling again....yeh ! that's what it said on the side of the stupidly expensive bottle !!
we both looked like tramps by the time we finished so we went for late lunch at the local garden centre unashamably scruffy....
tomorrow im doing a boot sale in the morning. so early start..
son off to Canada sunday so 5.30am start as im taxi ..

it is soooo humid I cant sleep !
Snap. I have given up trying to sleep now.
Well little piglets are doing fine, mammy pig is producing a bit more milk than before, plus the piglets are now lapping milk from a bowl like little puppies, which is a great relief . And they are putting loads of weight on now..
Over the last 18+ months I have piled the weight on, due to stress etc, comfort eating, so started going to a slimming class, where I met a friend I used to know back in the 80s lol. So it great having a catch up . I lost 3.5lbs in the first week, so really pleased, not one biscuit or cup of tea has passed my lips in over 10 days!!!!!Work to live= not live to work0
