Sparrowhawks don't care about humans; they've struck within feet of us several times in the last few years. Opportunists and very brave.

Here's one that haunted our patio at the caravan last summer. Someone on Grauniad CIF who hunts with a Goshawk said it's a 2 year old in good condition with good feathers.

What a coincidence. I'm feeling very guilty this afternoon as I threw some food out for the pheasants & 2 or 3 blackbirds were helping themselves too. A few minutes later I looked outside & there was a sparrowhawk on the grass with one of the blackbirds (dead) in it's claws :( I know it's nature, but I do love my garden birds and felt responsible for this one's demise :(

Not quite my daydream (although I was raised in a similar environment, maybe why it is not a dream) but seems more real than some programmes http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b070jj99/addicted-to-sheep

Oh I always feel bad too. (weeps) But if there's a good number of raptors it indicates there's a good population of small birds. One of the most exciting things I've seen was a sparrowhawk chasing a blue tit in the confines of our crab apple tree. For such a big bird it wove through the close branches and twigs so fast and accurately. On that occasion the little bird escaped though! :j

Looks good, but I'll have to watch it when not about to nod off!

A half-decent day today, punctuated by a few wild hailstorms. It's thrashing down again now, but there's a promise of two more reasonably dry days.:)

We have the conservatory surveyor man coming tomorrow. I'm hoping that he agrees to us using the existing conservatory wall as the inside leaf of the wall for the new one, but this will depend on a number of things. There's a chance that it isn't built square to the house or that he'll think the foundations a bit small, though they're larger than the ones on my previous house! :rotfl:

I'm learning. People are always keen to have you demolish things and start from scratch, but if we can save the walls, which have a DPC and haven't moved in well over10 years, it will save us ££ and much work. ;)

    hi all....

well the weather has improved here :j.........for now anyway..
cold but bright sunny day.... after our hailstorm yesterday that came from nowhere !

ive spent today helping sort out a "penthouse" flat that has been "let" for last 5 years and is now going to be sold. decoraters went in, did a total spruce up and stacked all furniture in the middle of the rooms !! I unstacked furniture [with friend] and cleaned through...looks fab !
going back tomorrow to sort out the terrace ,re plant the pots, arrange the furniture and generally spruce up.it has an amazing view over the city... BUT its on top of a listed building and NO LIFT !! [2 dbl beds,lounge,kitchen,2 baths 250k!]
78 steps..... I know cos I counted them on the 2nd climb :o
so I will either not be able to move tomorrow AND/OR I will have worked off some weight :D
I am now starving hungry... don't seem to have drawn breath this week so far !

    hope everyone is safe x

More rehearsing for me tonight.:( I'm at that stage where I think I know it, but then when I stand up there and it's all going on, my brain turns into blancmange....
The kids who have to sword-fight with me, don't seem to like my enthusiasm & dastardly moves, but I'm a baddie for heavens' sakes!smiley-sw018.gif

Anyway, they get to win: what more do they want? :p

Conservatory man came: obviously knows his stuff and treated us like adults. He's amenable to us making final decisions as we dismantle the old one and working with what we decide. He confirmed that the salesman had made a large boob, much to their disadvantage, but I'm sure we can meet them half way if it all goes well. They seem very keen to make sure it does. :)
