Bit of a pants day. Our builder isn't the best tiler in the world, so I had to pull up some of his work from yesterday and re-lay it.:wall:
I realise that if he fiddled about like I do, getting it spot-on, he'd need to charge double, but sometimes there are good reasons for slowing down. I'd already spent half a day levelling-out the floor to the best of my ability, but I knew it would take a bit of jiggery-pokery in that corner to get a 'proper job.' The original floors do slope around a bit!
Anyway, might actually get it grouted tomorrow. I'm beginning to take on jobs like that as the money gets tighter. It's not that I'm helpless, just s-l-o-w!
Oh, and my GS, Sam, was one today.Where did that year go?

Hi Lucielle hope D1 has a chance on it at the interview.
IHS - glad that things went as well as can be expected & hope that all is well re the will stuff. It's an exhausting time with all the stuff that needs sorting.
Alfie - hope the back is sorted soon. It's a pain is back ache.
Very cold here & scattering of snow everywhere. The air is damp & not crisp so it seems to get inside you somehow.
CTC - bush craft - you'll be getting taught how to eat worms an all sorts. They taste of bacon, but gritty I hear!
Only been up to the post to post stuff & just been sitting hunched up feeling like doing nowt.0 -
Morning all.
Well we didn't have the forecasted snow. We just missed it, but there is snow about 5 miles up the road, and on the tops of the mountains, very icy out though.
Got my sack of 6x yesterday.. Alfie it smells lovely !! Very countryside lol..
Davesnave when hubby tiled the kitchen floor, it took him about a week.. But he done a bit a day.. And took his time to make sure they didn't sink etc.. And they were even...
We need to start planning now for an income come springtime.. As once the floors and ceilings are in on the other side of the house, and the plumbing is done, then there will only be a small buffer of money left to live on, let alone do the finishing off of rooms ...Work to live= not live to work0 -

Tiling is like everything else in the building line; it's a matter of being very fussy and checking, checking, checking, which does take time. After all, using a spirit level is hardly demanding. On this place, we've settled for a compromise in some places because it's cheaper, and fortunately, the builder is an excellent carpenter.
We have enough money to finish the bungalow, but the replacement of the conservatory will be a struggle, I fear. It might have to be an ongoing project.....:undecided I don't mind, so long as I know where it will be, so I can organise everything around it.
Our only income of any note is my pension(s) I still have one which is building up, as I've not taken it, but that's my rainy day fund.0 -
Morning all,
VERY cold here this morning, but I rather that than the rain.
Choille how are you today?? And Mr Choille?? Sorry only now seen your pm, will pm you back later..
Davesnave.. We are having the general builder to put in the new stairs, floors and ceilings and stud walls, and we will be doing the rest. We will run the electrical cables to the sockets etc, and then the electrician can hard wire them in etc.. Same with the plumbing, we will lay/ run the pipework, for water / waste etc and then the plumber can just attach it all up etc..
After the good start with the stonemason, and then him going awol with his work, starting and not complete ng/ finishing any walls, and not just doing a temp blanking of the top of the chimnley after the stack was removed ( he completely bricked up the top 2 foot, ) we are now doing any stonemasonry work ourselves.. Inside and out...
Davesnave last year, you mentioned about the plant label software you use..what was it again?? And the printer???
Piglets are doing well.. Will try and take some updated pics for you... Still haven't put the other sow back to the boar..yet..
Lost one of our black rock chickens last week.. The thing is they were a few years old when we bought them at auction at the begining of last year...

Well we haven't had the Choille fire as it's low cloud & incredibly cold & we didn't catch a glipse of sun. The postie came down & couldn't get away for a while & he nearly drove into the car as the hand brake wasn't properly on & the van started to slide.......
We went over to the East yesterday & the roads here were a disgrace. It was -10oC near here & boy were all the deer down - big herds.
Were going to shelve the pantry but we bought a stacking shelving system - well two, but each different & they will be cheaper than buying dressed wood, which is really dear. We also got some different fuel as the last lot seemed to make a lot of clinker & not throw the heat out too well.
I am aching as if I've been a few rounds with Mike Tyson - must be the cold weather.
Best get off and check that Mr Choille isn't up a step ladder or down a drain - he's not supposed to be doing all that he is, but he is a bogger sometimes..............0 -
hi all
well my "ruby two shoes" has gone off....
she did her "you aint comin near me fella" act but as soon as he walked into the field shelter with her, she was putty...
quietly and calmly he waited and gently put on her head collar.. she was like a little mouse then ..
we headed towards the small hoss lorry and I then hid so's not to distract her. he walked her round it, past it and then put one front hoof on the ramp, talked to her and up she went, calm as calm !
im lucky he agreed to train her as yesterday when telling a lady in scats she exclaimed " how did you get HIM to do it !!"... he has a very good reputation ............
he just rung to say she has settled in her stable, hadn't broke a sweat on the journey and sunk her head in a bucket of feed :rotfl: he said most horses arrive and are not normally interested in feed till next day...... that's my gal
I will go visit her in 4 weeks time and he said he will drive her out here with me when she returns...:j
sorry to harp on but im so EXCITED ....0 -
