Morning all,
Sunny but very cold here, compared to what it has been,
Got some quails due to hatch any minute now... Which are like little bumble bees when they hatch lol..
Davesnave.. That form is a wonderful thing lol.. Hope its not going to be too cold this winter for you..
Piggles are like little bruisers really coming on lovely, she is doing them proud, right chunky things, .. Mammy pig is being fed AdLib, so she can have food whenever she wants,
Fk how are your pigs doing?? I am looking for another sow..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Quite a dusting of snow on the tops & cold, but it's dry now after torrential rain & hail.
Waiting for a plumber who is going to look at the radiators as they aren't coming on at all neither are the towel rails warming up. Think it's all airlocked.0 -
Lost a couple of ridge tiles last night. Another job the landlord probably won't do. Gave me a right fright at 3 am!

Godness Lucielle - I bet it did.
Could you get it done & bill him or would that be scary concequences? You need it done as it will allow the wind & weather to do further lifting.
Must move myself before I seize up.0 -
Flip luceille hope it gets sorted!!
Put some more boards up, and put the socket front on ( just to see what it looks like) we are putting all the sockets etc in situ, and running the cables ready for the electrician( step father used to be an electricians mate, so knows the layout of circuits etc..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Wow , properly cold now  when I let the dogs in last night they had what looked like snow on them, think it was hail! So have topped up all the straw for everyone to keep snuggly.
The pigs are all doing ok, got a few ready to go, MUST get them booked ASAP before the abattoir or more importantly the butcher is too busy. Got a few more growing on, and the last litter with mum has been borrowed by a local community farm. It's the only one in Wales bit they are struggling got keep going and had to get rid of all their own livestock. So they're borrowing some pigs already, a few goats will follow, and depending on their finances if they can't keep their own sheep I'll lend them some of mine. I've got some extremely friendly wethers who love a fuss, can't bring mself to dispatch them
I've got a lovely Tamworth sow if you're interested CTC?! We might still have to sell some of the sows, I don't think farming is really in my future as anything other than a lifestyle with a bit of surplus to sell on, at least where pigs are concerned. I think the market is saturated judging by prices recently...Sad but true. same with the sheep really, Welsh farmers are kicking off about prices and imports again, nothing is being done to support them.
On a different note, Had my first shift in the new job, it's the same work I did when I was at college/uni so I instantly felt 15 years younger :rotfl: it was actually fun, I was totally in my comfort zone, and I got a generous tip, so I obviously have still got the giftI will do it as long as I've got nothing better to do, and maybe til I reach the tax threshold, because if I wasn't taking home all the money I earned today I'd have to seriously rethink this work malarkey!
Well, got some lovely beef stew waiting for me, it's definitely the weather for comfort food!0 -
very nice CTC...
well I completed my trip 220 miles round. great dog cart in good condition, trailer is perfect tho scared the sh*t out of me towing it home !! I intended to go m5 , m4 then m3 BUT after advise from seller re wind strength on the m4 being the worse came back the way I went which involved Bristol and bath ... which is steep hills ... que behind me resembled blackpool illuminations in my wing mirror
very nice man seller;)
says he will come down to go for a drive in the forest when ruby is sorted ..........
bitter cold where I was, which was apparently somerset and turn left at Bristol ?? read between 3 & 5d...
like you have said choille , with snow at least its dryer ...
hope you get your heating sorted.0 -
Fk, the last lot of pigs they had were my ones, they didn't have to get rid of them, they were ready for slaughter, I bought some of the bacon, as we have run out of ours...
Its a welsh I am after, or def a white colour as coloured pigs don't even get a look in, there were 2 fantastic Tamworth's at the auction a few months back, they went for about a 3rd of the price of the white sows...
I know the large hill farms are moaning at the price of lamb, well moaning at the fact that supermarkets are importing g so much new Zealand lamb, when there is so much British lamb around the markets at the moment.... But then it is also down to the consumer and what they will pay, .. How can a small producer with just a hand full of animals compete with the supermarkets and the large commercial breeders who sell pork at £2 odd a kg and beef at £4 a kg??? You got to make your animals and meat diff, ?? Put them on show, so to speak .. ??
But then its hard, for all small businesses what ever they are,
Winter has def arrived!!!..
Davesnave how's the panto script going learning your lines??Work to live= not live to work0 -
FK... do you still have your land ? I thought youde lost the bulk 5 acres or maybe I misread.
I know of a childrens farm where they have some gifted animals ie sheep, pigs that they then get the bacon/meat to sell which pays for the feed for the rest. they also get donated feed. this particular farm does keep its head above water by doing this. have you donated your piggies? that may help them if they are spare. how many do you have left.. here the abattoir date booking has finished for before xmas. I was talking to someone who tried to get their pigs in and it was a no go. prices are low so really meat seems to be for owner and friends. as said cant compete price wise unless you get steadfast buyers.
I must admit id drive anywhere for CTC's bacon ....0 -
Snowing again & bitter. Still couldn't get the lamb even with the plumber's help.
Spend a while up there, went to bed to get warm this afternoon, not long up.
Plumber has a valve to order. Great the speed of progress around here is sh*t.0
