Everywhere west of here was wet. Not often that happens and we miss it.

Just had a visit from a barn owl. It was around for a while, before taking something from the top field and eating it on a post at the far end. Too dark to see much. Nice to see it, though.

hi all... gorgeous day today ! up and down like a tarts knickers ....

I sprayed the sheep again today for fly strike as they seem to be bothered by them. so they are covered in blue stripes ..

we are going to have a go at hatching some peacox/hens eggs.. we cant find any young peahens so going to have a go at DIY.. I think if there are males our solo adult male will accept them better..

the geese all want to be in the neighbouring field ! we thought we'd blocked every hole but... ironic as they have access to all our fields but as they say "the grass is greener....."

just had an "unhealthy" but lovely fry up...

    I shoulda stayed quiet! :o

Today was forecast to be mostly fine here, but I was rained off every time I tried to work outside. Only managed about 2.5 hours. :(

....And I forgot I'd put a bid on a mower, so that passed me by, and the only other bidder had it too cheaply.

So despondent by 4pm that I booked my flu jab and spent 20 minutes registering all our appliances with their manufacturer!:rotfl:

Anyone grown Sophora microphylla "Sun King"?

My local Dobbies had a sale on, and I picked one up amongst less exotic stuff like hosta, elephants ears and astilbe.

My thinking is it won't be fully hardy with me and best go into a pot for keeping the conservatory over winter. That said, there's a heck of lot of plants that need to go into the conservatory this winter...oops!

I planted one in a sheltered, but sun-restricted courtyard at the school where I used to work. It was in the part that caught some sun and it was still alive ten years later, when I last saw it.

It bloomed early and was a good improvement on the species, which I have here...in a pot for now. I'd buy another...in a sale, of course. :)

Rummer, can't remember if you got any suggestions for waterproof coats?

Anyway, have you thought of trying something like this from Seasalt?

I've got a short Seasalt waterproof for the lottie, it's very windproof, but I haven't tested it in pouring rain yet! But I imagine it will be OK. They do several waterproof coats, worth having a look through them all. I've been very pleased with mine.

    choille

Interesting articles down here about the problems recruiting to jobs in isolated areas. Makes is seem very desirable but does warn "a good set of oilskins to keep your dry in all weathers - we do get all weathers."

Hope you can get the water back on and get the stove installed.

well the suns out again today !!...

I have amongst a group of pots of flowers [to be planted] a plastic tub that I had put two pots in [so I could leave water in the bottom during "our summer"]
I noticed ,as choille would say "a wee froggy" in there.. this was at least 2 months ago.. over time the tub has filled with rain water and covered the plants but froggy still there. water is an inch off the top now and I have added a piece of bark wood as a little slope/roof to one side and gently pushed tub against another row of pots to enable his escape if need be...
MR FROGGY is growing and thriving much to our [mum and I]delight.
he has lots of insects etc in there... and seems as happy as larry :D
we sat discussing this morning what will happen in the winter and do we need to construct a place close by for hibernation ? im guessing some bricks/leaves/wood so he [she?] can get under. I don't think he will stay in the water ?
we are a sad lot here... every morning we go out and say "good morning mr froggy " :o:D

    have a good day y'all

Just popped indoors for a cuppa, cool but dry with me so taking the chance to plant everything I've bought in the sales and also move around some plants. Maybe not the best time of year, but I can't be doing with waiting until the Spring.

Agapanthus 'Northern Star' has done well, despite the weather.
