I have fabulous snow boots that were recommended to me by LIR and they are always good in foul weather
Think that this year I am going to invest in a longish, waterproof warm coat so any recommendations would be gratefully received. The one I have at the moment is snuggle but stops at my waist and something knee length would be better.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
I was woken in the night by a strange sort of snorting/honking noise.. stag ?? badgers?? not sure when their season for bellowing is..
Stag rutting begins now, so I expect that was it.
Of course, round this way, we make a competition out of it:

I'm sure I've put up the bolving link before.0 -
Last Friday, I was walking down to the hens at around 7am when I found a dead Long Eared Bat on the grass near our hawthorn tree. It was only a young-un, and it had the tiniest of injuries, so I concluded that inexperienced flying had resulted in a collision with the tree.
Now I'm not so sure, because an hour ago, Izzy came through the cat flap with an adult Long Ear, which then took off across the living room in search of a hiding place.
It didn't have to try too hard. At the end of the living room is our furniture pile; an assemblage of items being stored while we sort out the rest of the house. Hmmmm...right at the back, on its side, is the king size mattress, on top of which are many boxes, chairs etc. Then, in front of the mattress are various things, like a sideboard, chests of drawers and more boxes. In other words, it's floor to ceiling in 'stuff.':o
Yes, the bat managed to reach the back, then slide down between the wall and the mattress.......
Half an hour later, having done a huge amount of furniture-moving, Mr or Mrs Bat was, at last, in daughter's capable hands. He or she was completely unharmed, so it was out the back door and away....hopefully never to return. :T
How? Izzy climbs up the conservatory and onto the roof on a fairly regular basis. Now we know why!0 -
Started raining late on today but it's been lovely......at last.
Was listing until midnight last night so feel a bit jiggered after a full on day running about....getting no where fast.
Seem to have water problems - not enough coming down - need to extend the pipe up to a bigger pool. May need to get a solar pump or something.....
Why is ebay so slow at the mo?0 -

I had a second, really lovely silvery bronze pair and the kiwi ate them when he was a baby:(.
Well more decisions being made and looks like I might be thing up the business side here for a while. no big dramas about it, quite the contrary, its not really stimulating me enough right now and so I am not pushing growth and with out that and development it cannot make proper money. I do have to talk to an accountant about how we wind up sensibly. I do envisage doing it again or letting as a whole in the future..0 -

I'm still in something of a quandary here about resurrecting our business when we return to normality, whatever that is!
Part of me wants to, but the other part says I'd rather do my own gardening/maintenance well..... But I enjoyed seeing people at last week's market, and I know we could do at least 3 of those a month in the villages nearby.
Yesterday our field neighbour had his yearly hedge trim and, for the first time, the guy doing it put the flail right over the new fence and along the stream side. Usually, it's Mr Dog's son, but I suspect the change indicates it was someone else.:p
Either way, I'm delighted, as I've been keeping my side of the brook clear.:D I'm all for giving homes to wildlife, but not for creating the sort of environment where foxes and badgers might hole-up, just 50m from our chickens! That's how that hedgerow used to be.0 -
I do think building work jiggers you in more ways than one. It's mentally exhausting - well I am finding it so.
New computer, so no missing letters - the keyboard had started to go on the ole laptop & you had to stamp on the letters D & others.
Gorgeous day here - what vistas & it's warm too.
OH has his op soon, but we are not organised as ever. The water is off & we still haven't done the hole in the roof for the flue pipe. I'm feeling really stressed about the situation.
Hate having to fill up buckets with water from the burn again - feel we've gone backwards in some ways, but I musn't grumble not when it's so lovely outside.
Dave I'm sure you are very well organised but It's good to be on top of things = I am not & it is stressful. I don't know if I would want to tie myself into a business if I didn't need to, but it would be nice to be a bit hobbyist rather than full blown commitment. If that makes sense.
Off to make tea = we have a joiner here today so that is good = he's fitting the back door I got off Gumtree.0 -

I'm semi-organised. No more.
For example the base for the oil tank that I'm constructing is being filled with all the broken tiles and carp I chiselled out of the kitchen and bathroom, plus the last wall I demolished. It's all been sitting there, waiting. Very satisfying seeing the waste 'disappear.':)
Probably, in the no-so-distant future, some person will look at this creation, a relic from the crazy days of fossil fuels, and say: "It has to go!"
Then they won't half swear when they find out what's inside and underneath! :rotfl:0 -
The future land dwellers may believe it's a relic to the Gods' ; A strange alter or place for the pixies to hide in.
Gone overcast & dull & the midgies are out in force.0 -
We were one of the only dry places in the south of England today.
Missed us completely, but made me work harder, because I thought the outdoor working day would end early!
We ended up moving the hens into their alternative quarters this afternoon, which means fresh ground and a rest for their other enclosure. Hopefully, we can get a digger in there this winter and remove some of the old plum trees, which aren't very happy. We have 3 productive ones, but the rest can be replaced with walnuts, and maybe a damson.
I hear it was tipping-down, Bournemouth way!0
