Those stand out birds are incredibly dear. Its always personality, never looks. Rip tinkywinky.
Well folks, I had a topple in the garden last night and have taken what is turning out to be quite a nasty sprain to the ankle. I knew it was reasonably bad last night as I couldn't bring the two horses clients wanted in, in. ( and it took me a long time to get in to tell them and apologise...though they could have nipped over to do it themselves, the way is lit ).
Through the night the dogs barked ( annoyed they missed their stroll they were uppity) and I went to check it was just that and the pain was not fun. I had to remind myself it was just a strain, ( my meds mess with my pain threshold, so I'm less tough these days)
And this morning it took me half an hour to do the very basic door opening and feed with the birds.....a five minute job?
I've had to call for reinforcements and I am grumpy about it. I hate needing help, and in enjoy my rare enough time alone. I'm also having a weekend away this weekend, first time for years, and looks like I won't be able to do the exploring that makes the point of this.0 -
Ouch! to the sprained ankle, lir, and I hope it mends faster than you think it will. those kinds of set backs are doubly annoying when you are OK in other ways and keen to push on.
DW has been limping around for some time, so after physios gave up, she had a scan. Results will come back any time now. She thinks a new hip might be on the cards, as it runs in her side of the family.
We woke up to no hot water after yesterday's electrical work.It was also a bit fresh with more ceilings down! :rotfl:
Speaking of which, I had a phone call yesterday from a rival insulation company, bad-mouthing the firm we're involved with for dodgy practices and suggesting we might "end up in trouble" from a legal perspective if we accepted their services. I won't bore you with my reply, but I'll be letting the South West Energy Trust have all the names and phone numbers of these jokers.
Forgot to say what a great greenhouse you have now CTC! :cool:0 -
LIR - Sorry for your pain. Frozen packet of peas. I feel for you & know how
FREAKING ANNOYING it is
Hopefully you can attempt to do stuff that involves sitting down with leg raised - all those things that normally you don't have time for.
Cold & overcast here, but we have to go & get some stuff to allow plumber to return.........0 -
...we have to go & get some stuff to allow plumber to return.........
My last order to the builders' merchants is out of date before they've delivered. More plasterboard required, as another ceiling has come down. I think that's it now....hope so!
Plumber will come to us on Friday, when we hope he will put the pipes into the garage/en-suite and disconnect the log burner.
Must start looking at simple fireplaces and more 'modern-looking' wood burners. Pete has a circular, glass-sided Morso, which I thought a bit bold for him, but he loves it.
I was wrong. DW didn't have a scan, it was just an x-ray. She doesn't need a new hip, which is a blessing, but no one knows what the problem is, so the scan comes next...probably months away yet.

I am finding all of this so stressful. I have too much stuff in the house & it is getting a bit bashed up.
Morso is a really good make Dave = I've known a few folks that have them & love them. I think that some of the new ones are a bit thin re the gauge of metal.
Hope that they find the prob;em with Mrs Daves hip. OH awaits an op & they have him down as an emergency with all the faffing about, but it'll still be August.. They said it wasn't his hip at first - over two years later they now say it is!0 -
LIR, ouch, that sounds nasty, sending {{{hugs}}} your way x
Yep, Morso are a good make Dave, have heard great things about them. Ours at the last house was a Coalbrookdale - a 16kw beast - put in by the PO. Too large for the room it was in, but it did heat the master bedroom and ensuite directly above nicely, although I think more modern ones (this dated from the early 1990s iirc) are more efficient.....
Hope Mrs Dave gets to the bottom of her mystery pain issue x
Choille, I so feel your pain regarding things in the house getting messed up whilst work is ongoing - and I've never had to wait quite as long as you have to get finished, although we've done the ten year project which wasn't much fun living on site with a toddler/young child.
Not so much with this house, but certainly on our last project we really should have put all our precious/valuable stuff into storage during the process......one particularly gung-ho plumber forgot to connect the bath waste before turning the water back on, sending water cascading through the ceiling below (wood floor above was the ceiling iyswim) where it proceeded to drench a valuable Liberty rug and original art nouveau lamp table that still bears the water staining three years on
On the subject of water, we had our own mini crisis here this morning. Late last night when putting out the wheelie bins we noticed a small pool of water on the terrace which we both assumed was dog weeThis morning the pool had grown to a large puddle and on closer investigation we discovered a mini geyser-like spurt of water coming up between the old stone paving. DH drilled out the mortar only to find a Victorian (or maybe early 20th c) inspection chamber that went down several feet. It was full to the brim with water
Long story short it was water from our pond - that is fed by an underground spring - before heading into next door's pond via pipework beneath our terrace. Fortunately the backing up of water was merely caused by a blockage which was easily cleared.....phew
More planting going on here today - it was lovely earlier, but now overcast and rather breezy - I've nearly finished......for now:D

Evening all,
LIR, flipping heck, hope the pain goes soon .
I love these notepads/ tablets, or what ever they are called , as I am in the bath, and posting on here lol...
Busy day in work, and I am now pooped,
Started off a beautiful sunny day, but then went overcast and started raining.
Phoned to make an appointment for 3 months time for another blood test, but their appointment system don't go that far ahead lol so got to phone back beginning of august.. Also got a phone call appointment for Friday morning to go over the blood test result, as the receptionist did say something flagged up..but didn't know what.
Thanks Davesnave.. It will never win prizes etc but it will do the job, we are now looking out for an old parkray style living room coal fire with a back boiler in tact, so we can set up the fire just outside the greenhouse, and run heating pipes along the inside edge , to heat the greenhouse in early spring etc..but this is only if we can pick up a fire for free. Or VERY cheap lol....Work to live= not live to work0 -
Thanks ladies.
Its not getting very much better, but I am lucky to have been able to call in reinforcements. Just miss my alone time this week.
It seems I hit my arm and face when I went down too. Not badly, but I'm bruising over bridge of nose.
Its looking like we might need to hire some sort of mobility aid for the weekend.....the local Red Cross depot is too far away and I want something self propelling as fir won't be with me over half the time.
I so want to get round the Pavillion, and it looks like I won't be doing that on my feet. ( although first 72 hours are meant to be worst so might be skipping by the weekend!)0 -
Arnica helps to relieve/bring out the bruising LIR.
Phoebe - You have been down a long road too with all the work.
Our sheds are in Inverness 70 odd miles away so it is a bit unhandy but quite good to escape the wet mud & mess.
Cat seemed pleased to see us. He does seem to be settling more. It's still so cold only 5 degrees. The wind feels icy.0 -
Pleased to hear the new puss is settling in Choille
He obviously recognises a good slave when he sees one :rotfl:
5 degrees....brrrrr! I'll stop complaining about it being cold here - where it's a positively balmy 8 tonight and 14 forecast for Thursday......Mortgage-free for fourteen years!
